I would say no on Barrick. Don't see Miller leaving his alma mater. Maybe Bradford back to West.art_vandelay wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 8:13 pm All these SOC II openings, I wonder if Barrick interested in coming back over to Ohio to coach? If Persin goes to Valley from Oak Hill, does Valley become the front runner? Oak Hill probably will feel slighted about the short "retirement."

Big blue: brain fart on my part about Miller...forgot he was back at Piketon. Bradford back at West would make sense on a few levels.BigBlueNation wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 8:58 pmI would say no on Barrick. Don't see Miller leaving his alma mater. Just heard about Norm to Valley from someone I would trust. If true, that’s a grand slam hire for them and see a few trips to Regionals/State in their near future.*

Re: Coaching Vacancies 2020-2021
Oak Hill got a State Championship from him, so they should get over it. There been rumblings about Persin looking for next landing spot since February. Lot of rumors that SW was the eventual place, but their job never came open. When Valley job came open, coupled with serious talent on the way (and D4), it’s a perfect match. Yeah, he probably should’ve just resigned instead of “retiring”, but he’s a Hall of Famer, so he gets a pass.ravensfan09 wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 9:56 pm If Persin goes to Valley from Oak Hill, does Valley become the front runner? Fwiw, if all this is true, Norm must not be too worried about Valley school board/administration like others on here have been so focused on.*

It looks like the information I was hearing about Persin has made its rounds. I do not believe Valley will be a league favorite this year at all, the majority of their talent are freshmen and sophomores. I do believe that being in D4 will make them very dangerous the next 3-4 years in tournament play, as well as a major threat in the SOC in a year or so.

Yes. Green will be looking for a new Head Coach.art_vandelay wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 10:09 am I also heard Franklin Furnace Green job is open as well. Anybody else that can confirm?*

Not bashing you Art Vandalay, just using your quote to comment on the subject.
The Valley school board is trying to upgrade the school system in many ways. Not just the coaching situation.
I know you guys look at the basketball situation as a bad mark on the BOE at Valley, but the baseball program is as stable as it’s ever been. 2 coaches in the last 40 years.
The football program is as stable as ever. 1 coach in 30 some years.
And now there is hope in the basketball program again.
Say what you want, but this BOE is doing a fine job.
The facilities are looking very good as well.
So get over it.

This is a great hire for Valley. I know there has been a lot of smoke on here about this position, but this is a perfect hire to pair with Valley's young talent.

Wonder if Scarberry goes back to northwest to get his son ready to take over in a couple years. If so does blizzard or the jv coach last year take over the program?

Thanks. Heard today he may be teaching there as well? Good for him, seems to be doing a good job coaching and is just an overall good guy.BigBlueNation wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 8:24 pmWas told going to be assistant at Burg.transplant wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 8:49 am Where is coach hollar going? I wondered about Horton at Green. I tried to think who may apply for that spot, and thought the JV coach May take stab at it.

Great hire for Ater. Have been real impressed with Hollar over the years at Green. If Bradford still there, that’s a hell of a staff.BigBlueNation wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 8:24 pmWas told going to be assistant at Burg.transplant wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 8:49 am Where is coach hollar going? As for Green, tough scene when your head football coach and head basketball coach both resign to take assistant coaching positions elsewhere.*

Re: Coaching Vacancies 2020-2021
If Northwest hired Scarberry (dad) and the son as a teacher that is a great hire for them. Scarberry was a old-school hard-nosed coach. Let him get the program back on solid ground and then let the son take over. Not a back strategy!
If West has a chance to hire Bradford .... that is a no-brainer! I thought he did a decent job before with a bunch of football players.
