2020 Waverly 36 - 35 Granville
2020 Waverly 36 - 35 Granville
What can anyone tell is about Granville’s new head coach and QB Blake Rine?
Blake will be a Senior with this his first varsity start at QB. Did he play much last year and did he play any other positions last year to get on the field?
Waverly lost 2,000 yard rusher Peyton Shoemaker and one of the best kickers in southern Ohio in Greyson Diener but returns a ton of talent including 3 year starter at QB Haydn Shanks who is 100% healthy after playing the entire season on a torn ACL. 5 very good receivers return including all state Will Futhey, Zeke Brown, Penn Morrison, a 100% healthy Phoenix Wolf who I’ve heard looks amazing, and Mark Stulley.
I’m not sure who else will be in the backfield but look for Dawson Shoemaker to make a nice Junior season debut.
The entire offensive line returns and the Tigers dress 60+ players.
Word is Waverly has changed their defense which could be key to a very successful 2020 campaign.
Waverly’s offense should be ready to roll from the start and this team will be very well conditioned.

Normally I would say a long day in school, followed by a long bus trip would favor the home team and it looks like Granville will be in school the week of the game.
The Tigers did lose their "go to" offensive weapon in Payton Shoemaker and he will be missed. Defenses seem to not show up until Week 2 or Week 3 so I am looking for a lot of points in this one. If Waverly's experienced O-line can give Shanks time to throw I like our chances.
If this Granville's QB first start under the lights with limited fans, maybe all that will rattle him.
I say the turnover battle and special teams decides this one.
I'll take Waverly at home in a shootout.

Waverly by 14, way too much talent and experience. No excuses this year.

Granville's junior class is talented and deep. I know some Granville folks who think the next couple years will be the best two teams they have had top to bottom. But that confident claim occurred just after last season and Buttermore was still the coach at that point.
Off topic: Before Buttermore retires as a coach in 10-15 years, he will lead Upper Arlington to a state title. His strength coaching is second to none and game coaching is among the best in the state.

Apologies if this has been answered somewhere else but do we know the streaming options available? Is that up to each individual school?
Re: Granville at Waverly 08/28/20
How good is Warren suppose to be coming in to this season? Waverly pretty much had their way with them (42-0) halftime. 2nd teams played third quarter.

Re: Granville at Waverly 08/28/20
It took a few series for the Tigers to get rolling offensively, but once they got in rhythm, they scored at will. Shanks has so many weapons on the outside, it will be very hard for any team to cover them all. Especially when they spread it out to 4 or 5 wrs. The running game looked good as well. The line blocked pretty good the whole first half and Hurd did a great job at finding the holes. Poe did get some reps at rb as well, he did a good job at protecting the ball. I’d say going forward Hurd will be the main back, as long as ball security doesn’t become an issue. Poe will step in when needed. It’s up in the air when Shoemaker will be back, so the freshman will probably get the nod.
The D looked really good as well. Had 4 int in the first half. Had a nice goal line stand, which was encouraging to see. Warrens qb never had much time in the pocket. Crabtree and Futhey at ends are going to be a mean combo.

Sure is good to see Wolf back at full strength. He should have a stellar year.
I heard Harris looked good running the ball in the second half. Hopefully he's back to near full strength after last season.
If Waverly can avoid the injury bug we'll be fun to watch.....if even only on TV.

I know it was just practice , but that score at the half was crazy.

Re: Granville at Waverly 08/28/20
The score was slightly misleading. Warren never blitzed or came out of their base D. Our best safety played corner, and putting him in the middle would’ve helped. They wanted to see whether some kids could perform against a good team, or not. There isn’t much excuse for the offensive performance though. Waverly is the best team we’ll see all year. Their receivers and QB are impressive. Wishing them the best of luck.

Not really “general public” - each athlete with limited tickets to give to family. I guess there is a 15% limited capacity across the State. That means in our case the 1,900 seat home bleachers is only allowed 285 fans. Makes absolutely no sense being OUTSIDE and if masks work and social distancing works.McRoberts1990 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 3:50 am How we supposed to watch the game are they allowing any fans...
Games will be broadcast live probably via YouTube....... not sure exactly the media source.
