Notre Dame 2020
Re: Notre Dame
SOC 1 teams... weak conference ... keep losing with the current staff. The rest of the conference will thank you.

Should have beaten Green and East!! That’s still only 2-10...but better than 0-10! Still waiting?formerfcfan wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:32 pmActually, plenty of coaches keep their jobs after 0-10. I know of a coach that went 0-20 and, come year three, he went 7-3! He ended up taking a new job and the program ended up folding three years after he left. A school that reminds me of Notre Dame, come to think of it.RelaxGoat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:24 pmJason Vorhees wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 6:21 pm 2007: 6-5, Notre Dame made the playoffs and finished 2nd in the SOC1

For anyone to say that Notre Dame hasn’t had success in the past 20 years is stating a fallacy. Yes, Notre Dame isn’t as good as they were in the 1950’s-1990’s but you also have to take a look at Socioeconomics of Portsmouth and Scioto County. Since 2000, Portsmouth has probably lost at least 2,000 people. It’ll drop to less than 20,000 as a city on this census for the first time since 1900. Scioto County has also had a major loss of industry, and a new highway that completely by-passes Portsmouth. Scioto County from 1980 to 2010 had a 7,000 person loss. When the census comes out for 2020, it may be a 10,000 person loss in 40 years. That’s a lot of people to lose in an already impoverished part of the state. Is Bob Ashley on the same level as an Ed Miller? No, but he does well for what he has to work with. If I had a child growing up in Scioto County, and they were good at football, I would probably make sure that they were enrolled at Wheelersburg. That’s just stating facts. If someone truly has an issue with him being the coach, put your resume in. I always see three things that an Ashley coached team has:
1. Fairly well disciplined on both sides of the ball.
2. A respect for their opponent/classy before, during, and after the game.
3. They look prepared for every game.
A very wise coach once told me, “It’s not about the X’s and O’s, it’s about the Jimmy’s and Joe’s.”Are you a parent? From a totally objective view... who stays anywhere after going 0-10. That is not the reality of coaching high school football.formerfcfan wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:00 pm
LOL. Keep spinning a 35-0 win to denigrate the coaching staff. Real good look for ND.
Further, who the heck do you think is going to want to take a Notre Dame vacancy in 2021 if they read this train wreck? Brian Kelly?
Please explain who ND would’ve beaten last year under a different staff. I’ll wait!

If everyone was healthy, sure they would’ve. 2-8 isn’t all that darn different from 0-10 any way you slice it.RiverBallFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:38 pmShould have beaten Green and East!! I don’t get it Go ND! Keep going the same route.
Next week let’s look at why Burg should get out of the SOC.

Yes, you know the answer. Your superintendent said he applied. Enough for me. Are you calling your superintendent a lifer? You just said you know the answer, but you didn’t say what the answer was. Re: Notre Dame
ND went through a huge injury spell last season. Starting QB didn’t play a single down all year because his arm had surgery. Had several other athletes in slings and boots by week 3. Had a lineman suffer an absolutely brutal head injury that game. They played a monster of a non-conference slate compared to the state of the team. Jim Tressel, Ed Miller or Mark Snyder wouldn’t have been able to engineer anything better last year out of the Titans. OK, I take that back... maybe Green and/or East. Do you ever consider why ND plays the conference schedule that they do? Because those are teams and programs that ND will always be competitive with, not West and Greenup County — and it’s a direct product of the school size! This year, again, they would’ve gone 3-0 and possibly 4-0 assuming they would have beaten Fayetteville.RiverBallFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:46 pmI’m not wanting to argue, you make a lot of good points. Hey.. let’s look at this way... wtf... played all that competition... still couldn’t win a weak conference schedule.formerfcfan wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:54 pmND went through a huge injury spell last season. Re: Notre Dame
Do you honestly see anything meaningful in the difference of one or two wins, while simultaneously spinning that “oh Green just sucks this year?” Like, what’s even in your heart on this? I think everyone is sympathetic to the idea that yeah, Notre Dame has a great tradition and tremendous pride in the product that’s been on the field even when they don’t win for all of the reasons Jason Voorhees wrote as they’re a product of Bob Ashley and his philosophy to the program. I, too, hate it when I’ve seen my school go through the EXACT SAME THING - a direct product of what is virtually the same circumstances at the same common denominator of being at the school level over this past decade.
I watched ND up-close last season. If you don’t think that staff cares, or is competent, or whatever qualitative you want to put on them, that’s your freedom. Those opinions on the staff however do not mesh with reality when it comes to the state of affairs for ND football. It’s a tiny school, with great people working up against a situation for the past 15 years that has the school and football program under the gun, where the metaphorical chamber is loaded with the economic downturn that’s only going to depress further the school’s viability these next ten years. It’s sad. It’s sad as hell, frankly. Has it occurred to you this was probably going to be a flashpoint season for the program... and that what’s most helpful to the program, players, and school is the exact opposite of this “Bob Ashley has got to go” circus?

This thread is off the tracks. 35-0 ND win in 2 quarter game tonight not enough to kill this thread!!
I do agree about scheduling though...with ND being one of smallest schools in state fielding a team, they gotta be smarter in nonconference scheduling (no more Greenup County or West games). There are no “scrub” teams anymore for them...play a manageable schedule and keep the program going.*
