Ohio State Off Season All Things (2020 Football Season To Resume 10/24))
Re: Ohio State Off Season All Things (2020 Football Season Cancelled)
Clayton Northmont (Ohio) three-star receiver Marcus Allen was offered by Michigan during the first week of February, and that soon flipped to Crystal Ball predictions in the last week of March for the Wolverines to land Ohio's No-14 player in the 2021 class. Allen committed on April 28th to Harbaugh's program, but then sometime between then and September, he felt a disconnect with the Wolverines coaching staff. Yesterday Allen announced that he had decommitted from Michigan, and had reopened his recruitment.

Ohio State football coach makes a plea to Big 10 university and conference officials to allow for a fall football season starting in October.
Now whether or not he thinks his plea will make a difference or if he just issued the statement to be able to say he tried is another story.

The BIG will cave in eventually. There will be no spring season. With lawsuits and everybody and their mom begging them to play the pressure will be too great. Only thing that could stop it would be another massive outbreak with other schools having to cancel games and I don't see that happening.
Re: Ohio State Off Season All Things (2020 Football Season Cancelled)
Bolt, I would love to see the Big 10 reverse course and allow for a season start up in October, I just do not see it happening. Given real or imagimed concerns about covid, I doubt the Big 10 presidents will reverse their earlier decision not to play. The actual or threatened lawsuits are farcical in the sense if OSU sues the Big 10, they are in essence are suing themselves as they are part of the Big 10. The rest of the machinations seem to be for saving face more than anything else. Also many of the conference schools might well like to see football knocked down a peg or two in importance on their campuses. I do not think football is part of any colleges mission statement.cbolt wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 10:09 pm The BIG will cave in eventually. There will be no spring season. As much as it pains me to say it I hope they don't reverse course and play. If they don't allow the fans in I don't see any sense in having a season. I feel the same way with all the other sports with maybe the exception of golf since it is a quiet sport anyway.

Serena Williams seemed poised to make it back to the finals at the US Open on Thursday night, which would have marked her third trip to the Championship Match at the Grand Slam event in three years. That bid however, quickly fell apart. Williams fell to Belarus' Victoria Azarenka late on Thursday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium 6-1, 3-6, 3-6.

Wyatt Davis becomes the first Buckeye football player to opt out of the 2020 football season, and will now prepare and enter the 2021 NFL Draft.

OSU football insider Jerry Birmingham sees an avalanche of Ohio State football players opting out for the NFL draft. The need to protect or train for their NFL futures outweigh any loyalty to the Buckeyes given any lack of direction about playing from the Big 10. A quick look at the Buckeye roster would reveal 12 or more players with NFL potential who would be draft eligible come the spring of 2021. Even with OSU ' s high level of recruiting under Meyer and Day, such a mass exodus of talent would bring the Bucks down to a middle of the pack conference team.
We might be witness the beginning of the end of the golden age of Ohio State footbal.

West Virginia University has suspended 11 players for it's season opener for undisclosed violations of team rules. Coach Neal Brown announced the suspensions Saturday before the Mountaineers played their first home game of the season against Eastern Kentucky. The school would not specify what the players did, except to say this is not related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Naomi Osaka has another US Open title to add to her trophy case. The 22-year old launched a stunning comeback to top Victoria Azarenka with a score of 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the US Open final, her second win in Flushing Meadows and third Grand Slam win. Osaka avenged a walkover loss against Azarenka in the final of last month's Western & Southern Open, held on the same site as the US Open this year to minimize travel, after having to withdraw with a hamstring injury. Azarenka, a former World No-1, continued her winning streak into the US Open. The 31-year old playing for her 1st Grand Slam title in more than 7 years, seemed well on track to fulfill that destiny after an hour.

In it's nearly three decades of existence, the Big 12 conference has seen it's share of dark times. But in terms of sheer, unadulterated embarrassment, it's hard to find too many day's that match the mockery of what the Big 12 endured on Saturday. On the first semi-full day of games, the Big 12 failure's provided the defining storyline. No-23 Iowa State got mauled at home by Louisiana 31-14, which looked like the much better team. Arkansas State upset Kansas State 35-31, despite the Red Wolves missing 9 starters. And Coastal Carolina beat Kansas 38-23, after jumping out to a 28-0 first half lead. This of course, was only a upset on paper, as Coastal Carolina also beat the Jayhawks last season.

The Big Ten and the Pac-12 remain in the off-season but perhaps not for too much longer. At least, it appears that Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez and head coach Paul Chryst will be ready to play whenever the Big Ten conference desides. AD Alvarez said the Badgers are on pause, but they are poised to play if the Big Ten returns. Paul (Chryst) and I are on the same page on this. We can have our guys ready. We could have a team ready in 3 weeks. We feel comfortable with that.

Even though the Mountain West Conference postponed it's 2020 football season this past August, the Air Force Academy will still be allowed to face Army and Navy to compete for the annual Commander-in-Chief's trophy, which is awarded to the yearly winner of the football series between the three service academies.

Nebraska President Ted Carter may have spilled the beans. Carter was caught on a podium Hot Mic saying that there would be some sort of an announcement surrounding Big Ten football later Tuesday. Soon after, Carter added that the decision was a good move in the right direction.

It's only been one week of NFL football, but several former Ohio State players got their seasons off to a great start, In fact, two former Buckeye rookies balled out last Sunday and are now up for the NFL Rookie of the Week honors. The Washington Football Team's pass-rusher Chase Young ( No-2 overall pick ) and Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins ( No-55 overall pick ) are two of the five nominees for the week one award.

USC football players would like the State of California to lift it's restrictions that are preventing schools in the State from practicing. The players are urging Gov. Gavin Newsom to allow them to play. While NFL teams in the State can practice and play because of their daily coronavirus testing protocols, the four Pac-12 teams in California can't practice. Those restrictions, along with similar restrictions in Oregon, means that the Pac-12 can't realistically talk about it's plans for it's postponed 2020 season until all of it's teams are allowed to practice.
