Michigan States Marcel Lewis, a redshirt freshman linebacker who announced on Aug 8th that he was opting out of the 2020 season, said Wednesday that he is opting back in and will play this fall. He said he decided to come back due to more resources now and more development in our testing protocols.

Those restrictions, along with similar restrictions in Oregon, means that the Pac-12 can't realistically talk about it's plans for it's postponed 2020 season until all of it's teams are allowed to practice.
With the devil always being in the details, I can see the Big10 season falling apart given the draconian testing protocols and stringent infection ratios that need to be achieved before a team can play or practice. At least California is avoiding uncertainty.

I assume you would see the same thing for the SEC, ACC and the Big 12 as well.

Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh was very happy that the Big Ten football season will hopefully return on the weekend of Oct 24th. He said this was great news today, and that over the past month that he could sense the anticipation from his players and coaches as well. He said he was thrilled on their behalf that they will have a chance to play a 2020 season. He also said stay positive, test negative, and let's go play football. For one of the first times, I don't see anything weird in what he had to say.

I was right, omega. The pressure was just too great. Awful late start! Will be hard to impress the committee with that late of a start but we will see.

QB Dylan McCaffrey, brother of Carolina Panther running back Christian McCaffrey has decided to opt out on the 2020 football season. He will graduate in December, and also announced that he will be transferring from University of Michigan, and will then still have two years of eligibility left to play at a different school. Being that he is a senior, he will still have his senior year, plus the fact that the NCAA has granted all players an extra year because of the Civid-19 pandemic.

It was also reported that Michigan star wide receiver Nico Collins, has decided to opt out on the 2020 football season. Collins was one of their best wide receivers who had decided to return for his senior season, and seemed poised to have a big year in the offense. It was also reported that Collins had signed with agent Drew Rosenhaus. That's two pretty prominent players just today, that decided to opt out from that team up north.

University of Washington defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike said Thursday that he is opting out of the upcoming college football season and is declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft. Onwuzurike was a first team All Pac-12 selection last season, and was an AP preseason second team All American selection this season. At 6'3", 288 pounds, he is rated as one of the top interior defensive line prospects for the 2021 NFL draft.

Just a few days ago, it seemed as if the meeting of the Pac-12 presidents and chancellors scheduled for Friday would amount to little more than another opportunity to commiserate about a lost fall sports season. Now there is a "chance" they could have something to celebrate. Recent developments including the acquisition of rapid daily testing for Covid-19, and the approval of full-contact football practices could clear the way for conference leaders to vote on potential season start dates, or at least "agree in principle" to resume sports that had previously been pushed back to 2021. To be sure, any decision won't be as easy as yea or nay.

Could one of Michigan's top football players revisit his decision to leave the program ? Cornerback Ambry Thomas who opted out and declared for the 2021 NFL draft, said on Thursday that he plans to speak with the Wolverines coaching staff about a potential return. Thomas said he has yet to speak with coach Jim Harbaugh, but he has already heard from other staffers. He said that he had talked to a couple of his coaches earlier, and they said they would get at me later. They want to talk, see what I'm thinking. I'm going to express some of my concerns still, I've already signed with an agent.

Report: Pac-12 Presidents were presented flawed Covid-19 data before voting to delay the fall season. The Pac-12's decision to postpone all sports, including football last month, has come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks, and may soon be headed to a reversal. A new revelation from Oregon Live's James Crepea will likely only increase that scrutiny. Per the report, Pac-12 Presidents and Chancellors were given a presentation with "erroneous" statistics that "overstated" the prevalence of Covid-19 in some of the conferences communities at the time. After seeing the presentation, the leaders voted unanimously to postpone all conference sports until at least Jan 1st. The worst mistake was reportedly a seven-day average positivity rate for tests in Los Angles County. The presentation stated the rate at "19% ", but the L.A. County Department of Public Health listed it at "5.49%". The Pac-12 reportedly said it pulled it's data from "Covid Act Now", the L.A. County Department of Public Health, and the California Department of Public Health on August 8th, but all three sources denied ever listing such stats to Oregon Live. Now, with the Big Ten already heading back, the Pac-12 is "reportedly" targeting a mid-to-late November return. State and local restrictions have long prevented many of conference's teams from holding practices, but those obstacles seemed to start receding this week.

Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley, who is ranked as the #9 overall prospect and #1 ranked cornerback for the 2021 NFL draft, announced that he will not play this fall, instead choosing to start preparing for his professional football career. He may be the first to opt out, but I have an idea he won't be the last. If they decide to move this fall's season to the spring, I think you will see a lot of players decide not to play in the spring.
The reigning Big Ten receiver of the year in 2019, has decided to opt out of the 2020 season. Minnesota Gopher junior Rashod Bateman said that he will not play in the 2020 football season in light of the uncertainty surrounding the health and safety in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and instead declare for the 2021 NFL draft.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers may be getting one of the best wide receivers in the country back for the rescheduled 2020 football season. WR Rashod Bateman, after opting out August 4th for the 2020 season, is back on campus, enrolled full time, and wants to opt back in for the 2020 season. He finds himself in the same situation as a few other high profile players, as he has also signed with an agent. The next step, that famous NCAA organization that can never be consistent in any ruling that they hand down.

Offensive Lineman Cade Mays could be able to play at Tennessee in 2020. The former Georgia offensive lineman transferred to the Volunteers over the offseason and initially had his request to play immediately denied by the NCAA. Both Mays and Tennessee appealed that decision and UT coach Jeremy Pruitt said Thursday that Mays waiver had been approved by the governing body. All that's left is approval by the SEC for Mays to play right away.

I may be wrong on this, especially as inconsistent as the NCAA has been in some of their past decisions, but I think that there have been cases in the past, where even if a player has signed with an agent, and money was exchanged between the player and the agent, as long as the player gives the money back or repays the money, then the player would be allowed to return. You never know for sure just how the NCAA will rule on a situation such as this, it is never either black or white with that organization, they are just like the weather, very unpredictable. You may also be right about the Covid-19 situation, in as much as how many players have already opted out and signed with an agent, it wouldn't surprise me if they gave them the opportunity due to the virus to be able to return also.

We already know that Big Ten football returns this fall on the weekend of October 24th. This weekend we'll finally know the matchups for Ohio State and the other 13 teams in the Big Ten. On Saturday morning at 10:00 AM, the conference will release the upcoming season's schedule, which was not part of the announcement earlier this week that Big Ten football will be played next month. The schedule will be revealed on Fox's Big Noon Kickoff preview show.
