Definitely saw them in the scrimmage vs waverly and vs fort frye
We never came out of base against Waverly and didn’t blitz one time. They’re really good, but it was a bit misleading. As for FF, that game was a toss up. If we don’t turn it over on play one of the second half, it may be a different outcome. Not making excuses, just giving you facts.
Ff turned it over twice, one in their own territory and one inside Warren's 10. That game was not even close to a toss up. 32 minutes to 16 minutes in time of possession, ff had more penalties and turnovers, and still controlled the game. Warren scored on 2 busted coverages and 1 great throw by taylor. Had no running game to speak of and got manhandled in the 2nd half. Think warren ran maybe 11 plays in the 2nd half.
Fort Frye didn’t have more penalties. Turnovers were 2-1. You are right that Warren’s offense was shut down in the second half and were largely kept off the field. Not sure about manhandled though? Warren missed some passes and it led to a couple short possessions.
Fort Frye’s offense actually moved the ball more in the 1st half than they did the 2nd half, but converting some key 3rd downs kept the clock moving. They had three 2nd half possessions that ended in a fumble, a TD (the winning margin), and a punt. Then they ran out the last 0:56.
Other than the playoff loss last year, when was the last time a FF team blew a 2-touchdown lead like that? Did you think it was over at that?
Considering you’ve acknowledged that Warren scored on three big plays, the bottom line is Warren was one similar play away from tying or going for 2 to win with a minute left in the game. There are about 56 teams in the last 6 years who were nowhere near that situation.
Fort Frye earned the win, but if you are nitpicking who forced what issue to make a difference in the game, Warren had a couple more costly penalties (offensive pass interference), its own momentum killing turnover, and a couple out of place defenders that helped FF on some critical plays. All those things are part of the game that leads to the final score. FF managed one more TD. I’m not sure why it is so important to make it seem like a fluke.
