Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
Getting out before Nevada and Fresno join the MWC.
With Boise, TCU, Nevada, Fresno, the MWC would have been at or near the ACC/Big East standard for football.
This will help the Big East, help TCU, but in if the other Big East teams don't improve then it could be nothing more than a parrallel move for TCU.

Don't really understand this move by the Big East members. Huge travel costs associated with this and TCU isn't what I call a foundation stone for the football side of things. They are more of a "johnny come lately than UC, WVU or Pitt" concerning football.

A Johnny come lately that is better than every team in the conference with a fraction of the budget that they will have once the Big East money come along!

Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
The big East will be about the same with or without TCU. It may open up a few more areas for rucruiting so that TCU can continue to get better.
Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
While I like Gary Patterson as a coach and he has done a fine job at TCU since 2000, they don't have much of a resume before Patterson. I am afraid that once he leaves, which is a good bet, they will fall back to their previous level of play, much like Texas Tech.
The travel cost for all sports will be a drain on all schools athletic budgets. Outside of football, I don't get it, from the current members side of it.

If the cowboys can be in the NFC east, why not TCU in the Big East, they're both in Dallas!

And the Big East adds the Texas market. Might they be planning a TV network?

Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
Is the Big East gonna make a play to become a 12 team football conference?
They have 15 or 16 teams for everything else.

Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
They should try to become a 12 team football conference. (This would take a few years, maybe around 2014-2015, but it would be a huge step if you ask me) A Big East Championship game would then be added.

Pitt
UConn
Syracuse
Villanova
West Virginia
Rutgers
West/South

I'm not sure Nove has any interest in moving up. They have a decent FCS program but I don't think it would strenthen the conference to add them for football.el savior wrote:They should try to become a 12 team football conference. The Big East has a hard enough time defending it's BCS status if they go and add a few okay to bad teams it just makes it harder to justify them being a BCS conference.Who knows though, Give the SEC a few more years and they will have 20 teams!

Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
Yeah, I don't think they want to move up either, but I think if they can get everyone else on board with it then, they will follow and make it 12. That's why I'm thinking 2014-2015, if it ever gets done. I personally think that Villanova could move up and compete, especially in the Big East.Orange and Brown wrote:I'm not sure Nove has any interest in moving up. Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
Add 400 miles of travel both ways for both mens and womens sports and that is a big difference. I can understand TCU wanting in the Big East but not seeing it from the current members stand point. I do feel the conference will go to a championship game in football and I do feel that Villanova will join in the future.

Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
They have to add teams to get to 12 before they can have a title game.
As for other current teams wanting to make the trip.
This opens an entire state to the Big East recruiting market.
Not just any state, but Texas.
An extra 800 miles of gas in the airplane once every two years in nearly all sports is no big deal,
When you weigh in the benefit of recruiting Texas knowing that your games are actually going to get airtime there.

Re: TCU to join the big east in all sports
Welcome to the Big Least TCU! At least you are in a BCS Conference now.
So now the question is.......has the MWC improved itself at all or remained even?
MWC gains - Boise State, Nevada, Fresno State, possibly Hawaii
MWC losses - Utah, BYU, TCU

Do you think the Big East is positioning itself to remain relevant in the event it is raided by the Big Ten and ACC in any conference expansion?
