Ohio State Off Season All Things (2020 Football Season To Resume 10/24))
Re: Ohio State Off Season All Things (2020 Football Season To Resume 10/24))
Former Ohio State QB DWayne Haskins return to Ohio didn't go as well as he had hoped Sunday, as he had a pretty rough day turnover wise, three interceptions and a fumble in getting beat by the Browns 34-20. Washington Football Team coach Ron Rivera however stood by his QB, telling Haskins that he was behind him, and was going to stick with him. Rivera also told him that there will be fans calling for him to be benched, but that he (Haskins) has to ignore those distractions. Let's hope this is not that dreaded kiss of death support that a player usually hears, prior to eventually being replaced, especially if the team continues to lose.

There are some people that think that Jim Harbaugh, Michigan's head coach might be slightly overpaid, especially with the results that he has produced while at Michigan. Myself, I hope they give him a lifetime contract, he's just what they deserve. Now, there are other schools that sometimes may have gone a little overboard in hiring a head coach as well. Texas A@M gave Jimbo Fisher a 10-year, 75 million guaranteed contract to take the Aggies from a middle of the pack SEC program, to one that competes for National Championships. With a mediocre 10-7 record in conference play, and with just one win over a top 25 SEC opponent, that investment has not yielded much of anything so far. A@M managed to eke out a 17-12 win over Vanderbilt, a team many expect to go winless over the course of it's brutal SEC only schedule. A@M was favored by more than 30 points, has to be tremendously concerning for Aggie fans, especially knowing what lies around the corner. Next on the schedule is a trip to Tuscaloosa to play No-2 Alabama on Saturday. I guess that this past Saturday shows that nothing is guaranteed or a given, we just have to ask LSU or Oklahoma about that.

Wow! Talk about a quick change of mind. From total support on Sunday, to that dreaded kiss of death a few hours later. First off I'm not saying that the coach might be a little wishy washy in what he said, that he was probably told after the fact that there probably needs to be a change made. Rivera now says that the other players on Washington's roster "deserve better" and admitted there is a "cutoff point' with Haskins. When questioned about what it would take for him to bench Haskins, he declined comment. I think that there very little doubt, that if Alex Smith was healthy, that he would probably be the starting QB. First off I'm not saying that Haskins deserves to be the starter, he played terrible yesterday, and really in his limited time as a starter last year, he didn't really play that well either. He probably needs to sit a year or so behind an established starter, which I'm not sure that Washington has. Washington, like a few other teams, has quite a few problems besides just at QB. I was never that convinced even in training camp this year, that Rivers was that sold on Haskins as being his starting QB, and then to hear him saying after the game what he said was a little surprising.VetteMan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 11:53 am Former Ohio State QB DWayne Haskins return to Ohio didn't go as well as he had hoped Sunday, as he had a pretty rough day turnover wise, three interceptions and a fumble in getting beat by the Browns 34-20. Michigan's star offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield, who had opted out of playing this 2020 college football season, and instead had declared for the 2021 NFL draft, has decided to opt back in and play this 2020 season. Coach Harbaugh said that Mayfield had submitted a waiver to be able to come back and play, and if there had been any hurdles regarding his eligibility to be able to play have been satisfied, and that waiver has been granted. There may be a few stipulations that he has to do, but I'm pretty confident he will be returning.

Georgetown wide receiver Dijon Williams was arrested Monday on charges of first degree murder. Williams was in Georgia as the FCS school is not playing football this fall. Williams was arrested in Gwinnett, Georgia, by U.S. Marshals on murder charges stemming from a killing in the D.C. area. Williams would have been a senior during the 2020 season. The Atlanta native played in 10 games as a freshman, and had four catches for 33 yds that season.

Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons decision to not opt back into the 2020 college football season which begins on October 24th, is certainly disappointing for Nittany Lion's fans. From reading a few things that coach James Franklin said, it appears that possibly he and Parsons both had possibly explored the chances of his opting back into the season, but that there had been so many things that had occurred since he opted out, that it maybe was going to be very hard to get the okay from the NCAA to be able to return.

With consideration for the current circumstances resulting from disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the SEC has adjusted it's rules to allow immediate eligibility for players who have transferred within the conference. The SEC previously only allowed immediate eligibility for in-conference transfers, for graduate transfers and for players leaving programs facing a postseason ban from the NCAA.

Michigan has yet to play a football game in the 2020 season, but the Wolverines have already taken a loss, as freshman linebacker Osman Savage, a four-star recruit, has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Savage was the 15th ranked outside linebacker in the Class of 2020. The Wolverines signed the 6'2", 225lb commit out of St. Frances Academy, which is coached by former Michigan staffer Biff Poggi, in Baltimore. Savage picked Michigan over reported offers from Maryland, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and others. Maryland has recently been encroaching on Michigan's former stranglehold on St. Francis' players.

The way both Maryland and Michigan have been here of late. Maybe they ought to start by passing St Francis all together ???

A California man who used Facebook to threaten a shooting at Ohio State University, and vowed to hurt players on the football team, and then head coach Urban Meyer has been scheduled for sentencing later this month. An indictment unsealed late last year in Federal Court in Columbus, accused Daniel Rippy of making the "electronic communication" threat from California during the game between Ohio State and Michigan in 2018. The game was played in Columbus that year, and Ohio State won by the score of 62-39. The Livermore man threatened a shooting at the school, saying in a Facebook message to the University, "I'm seriously going to hurt the students and all of the players from the football team," according to a statement of facts filed with Rippy's July Plea Agreement. In separate messages, Rippy also threatened "to injure or kill specific players, their family members and the head coach, the document said. Federal Judge Algenon Marbley on Thursday set an October 27th sentencing date. Rippy faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A message was left with Rippy's attorney who has previously declined to comment.

Drue Chrisman is already known for being Ohio State's longtime punter and a record setting water bottle flipper, and now he's also receiving recognition for his excellence in the classroom. Chrisman was named Thursday as one of 199 semifinals for the William v Campbell Trophy which honors college football's top scholar athlete. Already a three-time academic All-Big Ten selection at Ohio State, Chrisman joins a long list of Buckeyes who have been nominated for the Campbell Trophy including Jordan Fuller, who was one of 12 finalists for the award last year, and two previous winners of the award, Bobby Hoying (1995) and Craig Krenzel (2003). Chrisman, a fifth-year senior, is entering his fourth season as Ohio State's starting punter. A two-time semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, Chrisman ranks third in Ohio State history with 72 punts inside the 20 yard-line and fifth in school history with an average of 43.9 yards per punt.

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton won't play in Week 4, Newton was added to the Covid-19/reserve list Saturday, and will not play in the teams Week-4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. While a player can be placed on the Covid-19/reserve list for coming in contact with someone who tested positive, it appears that Newton tested positive for coronavirus. The Patriots have done mass testing and retesting, and so far there is no spread.

Ohio State has picked up it's third offensive line commitment in the 2021 Class. Zen Michalski, a 6'6", 280lb three Star offensive tackle out of Floyd Central ( Indiana ), has committed to the Buckeyes following his decommitment from Louisville on Monday. Michalski, ranked No-625 overall, No-48 at offensive tackle and No-10 in Indiana, was extended an offer by Ohio State on September 8th, and the moment offensive line coaches Greg Studrawa and Kennedy Cook gave him the news, he knew his entire recruitment was about to change. He said he could feel it when he almost fell out of his chair.

Haskins apparently played the whole game for the Skins against the Ravens, going 32-45 for 314 yards with no touchdowns or.interceptions. He had one rushing td. No mistakes but not good enough in a 31-17 loss.VetteMan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 4:24 pmWow! Talk about a quick change of mind. It looks as if the Buckeyes are going to be banged up to start the season, as both redshirt junior forward Seth Towns and redshirt junior wing Musa Jallow have not fully recovered from their injuries. Towns, a graduate transfer from Harvard, has been recovering from a knee injury sustained in the 2018 Ivy League Championship Game, and most recently had follow-up surgery this past January. Though coach Holtman says that Towns has made good progress, he still has doubts that he will be ready to play games when the Buckeyes start the season in late November. On the other hand, Towns has previously said that there is no question that his knee will be healthy by the start of Ohio State's 2020-2021 hoops season. I'm not confident that Jallow will recover enough to be able to play, as he spent the entire 2019 season trying to recover, and yet he missed the whole season.

Charlie Haeger, who played five seasons in MLB as a relief pitcher, was found dead with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday, while being sought by police on suspicion of murder. The 37-year old was reportedly wanted following the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, Danielle Breed, who ewned The Tipsy Coyote Bar and Grill in Scottsdale, Arizona. Haeger's body was reportedly found on a trail in the Grand canyon around 4PM on Saturday. Police reportedly responded to a report of gunshots Friday evening, when Breed's roommate said he heard gunshots upon returning to he and Breed's residence on Friday. Haeger reportedly came out of the bedroom with a handgun, and pointed it at the roommate, who managed to escape and call 911. A Scottsdale SWAT team was called to the scene and attempted to barricade Haeger from fleeing, but Haeger was able to escape. Haeger's car reportedly found unoccupied near Flagstaff, Arizona, more than 100 miles from the Scottsdale and Phoenix area on Saturday. Haeger most recently played for the Los Angles Dodgers back in 2010. He also appeared in games with the Chicago White Sox and the San Diego Padres.

Legendary Florida State coach Bobby Bowden has tested positive for Covid-19. Bowden, 90 years old, confirmed the diagnosis on Monday morning. Bowden said he feels fine, and has not shown any symptoms of the virus. He also said that he didn't feel bad yet, so he guessed that he could loaf around the rest of the week. He said that he would just have to keep an eye out for any symptoms. Bowden was recently hospitalized to treat a leg infection. He was released last weekend, only to test positive for Covid-19 a day later.

Another College Football coach has tested positive for Covif-19. The University of Arizona announced Monday that head coach Kevin Sumlin, it's third year head coach has tested positive, and that Sumlin had been tested multiple times, with the positive outcome confirmed. Sumlin,56 years old, has subsequently entered self-isolation while the University conducts contact tracing.
