I like the rule of the score has to be a header off a cross, allows the kids to keep playing and not "run it up".

Curious, what if "crossing" the ball isn't in your model?

Then i say if you are up that many. Work on it? Might be able to use it in other games. Curious, do you not like the idea of crossing the ball? But im sure you can find something in your model that will allow you to still play hard without running up the score.

Correct, I don’t believe in it. I think it’s a wasteful opportunity. Just my own personal opinion, so we have found other ways to score.
I think the biggest problem with these scores is HOW the players/coaches act. We’ve all seen it, up by 10+ and kids are laughing when they miss opportunities. Not trying as hard. The score/opponent shouldn’t change how hard you play.

So what do you do on corner kicks? Just pass it in and keep with your model? Im not trying to agrue with you or anything, so don't take it that way. Just always interested in hearing others views on things.
And i agree, the score/opponent shouldn't change how hard you play.

Yeah, lol pretty much. We have 2 set plays that fit within our model. I have no problem talking about it, maybe a PM rather than on the thread to report scores. And no offense taken.

Agree 100%. Its just ridiculous that there still isnt a mercy rule.lovesoccer178 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 9:10 amI'll say this... My team has never gone above 9 on an opponent (not because they couldn't in my 18 years as a head coach).Tri-StateYouthSports wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 9:37 pmYou realized that this is a high school tournament game, right? Exactly what do you expect Wheelersburg (#2 seed) to do in a game against the #18 seed? Kick the ball between their centerbacks for the entire game?Shoestring wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 8:28 pm I'm sorry but putting 17 goals on someone is ridiculous. The coaches should be ashamed of themselves.
It looked to me like Wheelersburg's non-starters played the majority of the game.
One simple rule. The next goal has to be on a header from a cross. Do this in the first half after 4 or 5 goals and again in the 2nd half.
Players can still work hard to accomplish this & it makes them better players. It simply works.
I've had to rip into 2 players over the years for not following this rule, but the vast majority of my players buy into this concept.

Yeah....looks like Lynchburg Clay got the game moved to 5:00 on Saturday. Their XC team will easily qualify for regionals and most of their talented team is made up of soccer players.
Maybe a bit of an edge though for SW to pull the upset...they’ve owned LC in the soccer tournament of late.

Dang, run cross country in the morning and play soccer that evening? Ahh to be young again. Haha

Their one kid hardly ran all season and showed up at league meet and finished 4th! I told him he’s not supposed to be that good.transplant wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 8:28 pm Dang, run cross country in the morning and play soccer that evening? Ahh to be young again. Haha

St Joe is up 2-0 at the half against Minford.

Any updates on the other games going on right now?

Woooooooow! Absolute snooze fest! Soccer is about GOALS! GOALS! GOALS! Why did I pull strings and get a public ticket to this game??? Should’ve stayed home instead of freezing my butt off. I wanted to see the nylon burning! I give this game a soccer ball size rating of 1 out of 5. I’m actually more disappointed than the Valley Indians.

South Webster. 1. Lynchburg Clay. 2. 17. Min left in the 1st half

Good job Lynchburg! Big day. Took 3rd place at district XC meet to qualify for regionals and then a big tournament soccer win...same day mostly same kids
