What are they feeding them boys at Ironton Saint Joseph Central to be undefeated after beating Minford, when Flyers have only 23 boys compared to `170 for Minford

I was wondering the same thing. Do they just have a few loaded classes of soccer players together? When did they become a soccer power? I feel like when i played, they were either just starting a program or something? Congrats to them though, not trying to take anything away fromt them.

Most of the players @ Saint Joseph have played together since rec league. Some years we have better athletes than other years. But you will see them playing soccer, basketball, baseball and all the while participating in about every school activity and serving their Church. Great bunch of kids!

That’s good to have a class stick together like that. Do you think they will be able to keep this success up? Or is this class graduating this year? Always makes all teams in the league better when there are more competitive teams.highflyer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 6:28 pm Most of the players @ Saint Joseph have played together since rec league. St. Joe has a solid team this year. However, calling them a soccer power??? That's a bit much. Wins are good yes but you have to look at SOS (strength of schedule). For example...
---------------------------------------------W---L---T
Lynchburg Clay Opponents Record: 103-120-28
Wheerlersburg Opponents Record: 126-125-47
South Webster Opponents Record: 163-105-39
Ironton St. Joe Opponents Record: 69-128-22
A program that is a soccer power plays a tough schedule and is more concerned about District Championships and getting better than wins. If they beat Lynchburg I'll be the first to ask for seconds on eating crow... but I don't think that's going to happen. I predict LC by a 3 goal margin.

its hard to sense scarcasm in text. I wasnt saying they are a power. They have has a good year, yes, but i know what you are saying about SOS and all that. i guess im just not used to them winning the league and beating minford. Just thought id ask about them.

With such a small number of athletes at ISJ it's a year to year thing with sports. ISJ will lose a majority of this years team to graduation. Next year looks to be a rebuilding year so you have to be careful in the way you schedule. As far as this years schedule the SOS is dragged down because of 3 or 4 teams. They beat Valley who beat Webster and they beat Russell Ky who usually are a powerhouse as well as beating Minford who had a fine season in the SOC2.
What I find very cool about this years team are the names of the players. Weber, Sheridan, Medinger, Whaley, Malhmeister are names that you can go back several generations and find the same names wearing the Purple and Gold, some even when they were known as the Flying Dutchmen.
Good luck to the Flyers tomorrow night!!!!!

Looks like Thursday will be wet for sure. Forecast is calling for 1-2" of rain. I am not sure this gives anyone an advantage on turf.

I would agree that SJ shouldn't be called a soccer power just yet. They've put together a few good years and that's a great place to start. Last year was their first ever appearance in the District Final and they've been able to at least duplicate that this season. As Dutch said before, this team is heavy with seniors (9 total, 7 starters) so next year's team will be significantly younger than this year's group. Hopefully SJ can repeat this type of success for a few years and then the talk of SJ being a soccer power can begin.
I'm not much into predictions but I certainly think SJ will show up against LC on Thursday night.

I've checked with NA, Burg, & Waverly and none of them are officially streaming.
I don't know about LC or SJ.
I did hear a person will be doing updates on Twitter. @SirBrockNetter

Congrats to the Pirates. Jolly and company put on a show tonight! If a team doesn’t contain Jolly, the outcome will not be a good one.
