Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
The SOC I will be very competitive this year. I look for Clay, Eastern, East and Notre Dame to battle it out. All 4 schools have a lot returning and also do not count out Western. I look forward to this coming basketball season in the SOC I. Look for Clay and Eastern to be the favorites with both them winning at home with Notre Dame and East both being a conference spoiler.

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
In the SOC2 I'm going with Minford. They may be better than they was last year when they get Shepard back.
Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
In the SOC 2 I am going with Minford. They have a solid core that has done very well and have prepared this off season. Valley will do fine but won't have enough to win the SOC this year. In the SOC 1 I am going with Eastern. I think Barrick is going to make a good first impression in Pike County.

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
SOC II:
1. Minford
2. Valley
3. Oak Hill
4. South Webster
5. Wheelersburg
6. Waverly
7. West
8. Northwest
Minford and Valley are the obvious favorites...pretty steep drop-off after those two. Wheelersburg is the wildcard...they will be athletic but relying on a freshman for scoring (and a long football run will likely hurt). Football playoffs is also part of my reason for taking Minford over Valley.
SOC I
1. Clay
2. Eastern
3. East
4. Notre Dame
5. Symmes Valley
6. Western
7. New Boston
8. Green
Probably the deepest SOC I has been in 10+ years.*

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
SOC 1 is going to have Clay come out on top again this year. They have too many good players on that team not to succeed. They have King at point guard who can outscore anyone in the league easily and he's also a PG that can see the court very well. Watching King play a few games last year was amazing especially his game at Clay versus Eastern. Hinze adds some height and can shoot the ball well along with Gilliland who can rebound very well and score at will if needed inside or outside. Fun team to watch and I plan on watching a lot of their games this year.
Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
It is Clay's to win, or lose. If the coaching staff allows the boys to play their game, they are smart enough to take what they are given. If not, it's anybody's league to take.

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
I agree with CoachC, Clay just has overall good BASKETBALL PLAYERS who can just flat out play. They know when to back cut when being over played, they curl when the defender is trailing, and they move well off the ball. Just seemed as if when teams some what pressured them, they had some trouble taking care of the ball.
Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
Clay will only be in trouble if they are not allowed to take what the opposition gives them. If too much control is taken over their game, pressure will bother them. If they are allowed to make their own adjustments, they have handled it well since biddy ball.
Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
Clay will be tough to beat this year, but I do not think they are head and shoulders better than the other top teams in the SOC 1. They showed that they can be pressured like CoachC has already stated. Scrappy teams will have the best shot to take Clay out this year.
There are a lot of talented teams, and players in the SOC 1 this year.

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
Minford has the big advantage in that only a few players play football. Whereas the starting five for valley will be on the football field. Valley will be good at the end of the season but Minford may already have it locked up by then. Can't wait to see the boys hit the hardwood, should be a great year of basketball!!

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
Depending on how well Barrick does with the eastern boys will determine their slot in the league. As of now I don't see anyone comparing talent wise with Clay as they have too many threats. Notre Dame might be a sleeper in the league this year as well
Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
Did you get to watch Wheelersburg any last year in the tournament? Davis (senior) will be a deep scoring threat at PG. Coleman is a good offensive rebounder that gets clean up points around the basket. Curious to see how Holden transitions to varsity. Should do much better than 5th in the SOC 2.art_vandelay wrote:SOC II:

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
SOC I will be very tough!! ND started 4 sophomores and 1 senior last year. They will start 5 juniors with more juniors coming off the bench. It will be a battle between ND, Clay, East, Symmes and Eastern.
Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
Burg will have Holden on the bench to bring in more knowledge as well as new assistant coach PJ Fitch

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
I love how no one gives the Waverly Tigers any chance... they return all their starters and I think they will be a threat in the SOC II. Don't count them out and they are much better than 6th in the league.

Re: SOC1/SOC2 Predictions
If Waverly finishes in 6th, then that league will be extremely tough. As mentioned above, the Tigers return a lot and have a good deal of young talent.
