Waverly at Eastern (Pike) 01-30-21

Post by smurray »

Waverly coming off come from behind win over Oak Hill 67-55 last night. Tigers were down 16 at one point in the first half and cut to 8 at the break. A furious 22-8 4th quarter made the difference in pulling out the victory.
How much will exerting so much energy to come back affect the game tonight? Eastern is never an easy place to play and their HC knows a little bit about Waverly and what the Tigers plan to do.

It would certainly be a season-making win for the Eagles if they could pull this off, but unfortunately the horses aren’t in the barn. The Eagles just don’t have the talent or depth to compete in the upper division of this league. It was a terrible decision by the Eastern administration (aka Tom Barrett) and now the current players and coaches are paying for it.

Oak hill should’ve never been this close and neither should Eastern. This will be over in the first qtr. at least it should be

I’m greatly confused how Waverly trailed Oak Hill by 16 and OH led after 3 quarters.

Waverly is greatly conditioned and they need to put Eastern Pike away early.

I agree. I haven’t seen the first minute of action this year...just following the commentary here and radio (still old school), but I do kind of get the sense that the Tigers seem to be playing to their competition. We need to tighten it up and break out the can when we play inferior opponents. This team needs to have a high bar of accountability bc they can be special.

Oak Hill played out of their minds and Waverly was sleep walking. Tigers going 12 for 25 from the line didn’t help much either.
These Tigers are hard to figure out... West & Oak Hill on one hand and Bishop Ready, Jackson, Heath, Fairfied Union on the other.

Waverly has the talent and the coaching staff to make a deep tournament run. But until they learn to come out and and play with the same intensity and focus every night no matter who they are playing, they could very easily get bounced out of the tourney much earlier than they should. They need to learn to come out and put teams away early and keep their foot on the opponents throat. No disrespect to Oak Hill, but if you watched that game last night there is absolutely no way the Oaks should have even been in that game from the tip. But Waverly came out with no since of urgency and thought the Oaks would roll over, but no opponent is going to do that. Hopefully they start to figure it out tonight.

Wins are wins, league road games can be iffy but Waverly is 30 points better than some of these teams. Best player in the district, great defensive running mate who can take care of the ball and 6’3 athletes amuck and a 6’5 big that hustles like few others and works great with Trey.

How many kids on Eastern Pike’s team would be in the Waverly rotation of players?

Don’t know the answer to that one as Waverly has a 7 man rotation.

Waverly has the best talent in the area. But their style is not conducive to consistency. If games are called closely foul trouble will always be a problem and even though they have multiple players who are skilled, the entire offense runs through one player

Does anyone know if this game will be streamed tonight through Waverly’s stream or Facebook?

Think Eastern streams on YouTube.

That was Jv score. Easterns coach had a lot of these boys on Waverly’s varsity when he coached Jv for Waverly a couple years ago.
