With so many teams under quarantine this weekend - here are some fun facts as we gear up for the home stretch in area high school boys basketball. As it stands right now, the Belpre Golden Eagles are the only team who have been able to navigate the season with little to no hiccups. They are currently (9-8) and have been able to play the majority of their scheduled contests. The 17 total games are the most of any team in the TVC - and they are on pace to be the only team to complete a full 22 game schedule. Athens, Nelsonville-York and Federal Hocking should finish with 21, the rest of the league will finish with 20 or below. Speaking of the Lancers, they have by far the most games to make up. Fed is currently (8-2) and will be trying to play 11 more games over the next 24 days. If Belpre can finish its schedule, 5 more dates over the next three weeks, I think it is safe to say we can label them the 2020/2021 Covid league champs!

Total games as of Jan. 29th

Belpre - 17
Athens - 15
Vinton County - 15
Wellston - 14
Nelsonville - 14
Southern - 14
Trimble - 13
Alexander - 13
Waterford - 12
South Gallia - 12
Eastern - 11
River Valley - 11
Meigs - 11
Federal Hocking - 10

Updated TVC-Hocking standings as of Feb. 14th with lots of basketball still to be played. The Trimble Tomcats remain in first place with a perfect (8-0) league mark thanks to their big win back in January over Federal Hocking. Trimble also cleared one of its remaining hurdles yesterday after winning at South Gallia 61-46. Crown City is never an easy place to pick up victories. The 'Cats still have to play 3rd place Waterford at home, travel to the Eagles Nest in Belpre before the big showdown in Stewart vs Federal Hocking on the 24th. The Lancers meanwhile have been hit hard with quarantines, three times to be exact (which equates to 42 days of no basketball!) They have a league high SEVEN games still needing to be played between now and Feb. 24th. 7 games in 10 days with a winter storm warning issued for most of Ohio doesn't bode well for the Lancers. They will most likely be playing league games in between tournament games, perhaps even into March.

Trimble (12-3),(8-0)
Federal Hocking (9-3),(4-1)
Waterford (7-8),(6-2)
Belpre (9-8),(4-4)
South Gallia (9-6),(3-4)
Southern (2-12),(1-7)
Eastern (0-13),(0-8)

Updated TVC-Ohio standings as we start down the home stretch. Athens continues to hold on to its 1/2 game lead over Vinton County after a thrilling 50-48 win over Alexander on Friday. The Bulldogs still have some hurdles to clear, including a trip to McArthur on Monday (weather permitting) and has a home date with Meigs that may need to be played after or during the tournament. Weather, Covid and quarantines continue to wreak havoc on teams and this week will be no different as a winter storm warning has been issued for most of Ohio to start the week. You can can visit https://www.wxtq.com/schedules-results/ for all 14 TVC teams updated schedules, results and league standings.

Athens (9-7), (7-0)
Vinton County (11-5),(8-1)

Meigs (4-8),(3-3)
River Valley (8-6),(3-5)
Alexander (8-10),(6-6)
Wellston (8-7),(2-5)
Nelsonville-York (3-14),(0-8)

Going to be a hot mess. Bulldog games Monday (@ VC), and Tuesday (Home, Wellston) almost assuredly not going to be played. Did NY, RV, VC, or Wellston play last night? Everyone saw the storm coming. We could have bumped up one of those teams to last night and at least got one game in before the world comes to a stop this week.

Jackson supposed to be at Alexander Thursday...I wonder if that gets canceled due to TVC needing to makeup so many game?

No doubt. Neither team played.

Athens has not been very proactive all year in regards to covid or weather. They just continue to push games back. Now they have 4 games still to be played with snow on the way and the tournament right around the corner.

Have to do a 33 series. Day game in Buchtel and a night game in The Plains.

We have played everyone once, so only need one w NY, but the point remains. Get on the horn and get them scheduled! Bulldog is right, we've just been content to push our postponements to the back of the schedule. There are other options.....
