Re: 4/17 Scores
Great game by the Ironmen. Lost 9-7 to a top 10 D1 team and didn’t pitch any of their top 3 pitchers.
Freshman Wolford got the start...freshman Lane Erwin came in for 2 1/3 innings and sophomore Conner Gerstenberger came in and went 3 2/3. 3 you f kid’s toeing the rubber. Gerstenberger had his slow curve working and probably upped his mound opportunities for the rest of the season. Kid did well.
Great thing about this Ironmen team is every kid is doing something to help win. Batters 1-9 are working the pitcher and putting ball in play. This Ironmen team has some quickness and the kids that aren’t real fast have good base running instincts.
The boys had ample chances to win this game...the ump did take one of them. Blankenship with bases loaded beat out the infield single, but the umps just called everything an out tonight if it was marginally close. Should’ve been tied 7-7 and vases still full.....next inning though home plate ump gave Jackson a call at the plate (but an incredible throw by LF Bricen Brown and quick sweep tag by Ty Broermann sold it to the ump IMO.
Lakota had some trouble on some 2 hoppers and Jackson mashed a few tough hoppers at them. Guessing that first kid was hitting 85 and Jackson finally worked him out of the game but next guy was much of the same. Lakota’s OSU signee is a pitcher that never left the dugout...would’ve been fun to see him.
Great game...The Ironmen lineup will keep them in every single game.

Normal starters went in Game 1 - D. Welsh homered to RF in B1, Cam Niese went a CG for his 4th win.Raider6309 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 6:44 pm Game 1

In-Game 2 Athens played mostly backups and started a pitcher who was coming back from injury. He struggled a bit and they gave up 6 runs in the 3rd inning and then the rain came down and the mound became a mess and cause a short delay. After the mound delay, the game was out of reach.
Athens is 8-3 overall (5-1 TVC) and leads the state in total team home runs according to Maxpreps with 8.
Bulldogs have a busy week ahead
M- @ Logan (Makeup game)
W- @ Nelsonville-York
Th- vs Warren (first HS meeting since walk-off in 2019 district final, both teams met last summer in midweek travel ball at Warren which Athens summer team won)
Fr - vs Wellston
