OVC 2021

Post by packers80 »

What is the OVC supposed to look like this year top to bottom? If there's a thread on it already & I missed it I apologize.

Ironton seems to be a solid team, beat Valley and put up a couple on the Burg
Portsmouth set the tone last night against Oak Hill
and Fairland seems to be winning some games... not too sure about all the others

Those were all scrimmages. They are 0-2 after losing to Jackson and Athens. But I agree, the Blue Devils will be in the mix.

What are your opinion so far of what we have seen in the OVC?

Portsmouth is off to a 9-0 start, including wins over South Point and Chesapeake, with new coach Aaron Duncan. The Trojans have been struggling in baseball the last several years, but with Duncan, a former All-American baseball player at Shawnee State, participation numbers are up and there is renewed energy in the program.

Is this a jab at Coach McGraw? Can’t tell. It can be read that way. McGraw had a ton of youth and they improved pretty good through the season. He’s guiding Jackson pretty well right now. Good to see Duncan having success. Portsmouth needs to be good at baseball and they are.

I have no idea whether this was a jab at McGraw or not, but sure doesn't seem like it. Was McGraw at Portsmouth more than a year? I very well may be wrong, but didn't he take the job to go back home? Stayed a year, then bolted back to Jackson? If that's so, wonder why he didn't stay at the helm to continue the improvement you mentioned? I don't know, I'm truly wondering/asking questions.

Ed Ott: My post is not a reference at all about McGraw. I just posted facts about what Duncan has done so far for Portsmouth baseball.

Good lord..

Ridiculous observation Ed ott.

Portsmouth has struggled in recent years because they lacked good baseball players. Coach McGraw did a fine job the 2 years he spent with Portsmouth. He just didn’t have the horses.

Trojan dave is a faithful and true Trojan fan and would never talk bad about anybody in the program!! Coach McGraw has known trojanDave since he was born and would never think anything bad or think dave would talk down about him.

I see the Trojans on a two game losing streak. Against Ironton had them beat the whole game until the last inning. Also lost to Gallipolis 4-3 I believe but the Trojans are a young team. Go Trojan!!

14U and Moses Guthrie: Thanks for your support.

I listened to Coach Duncan today on WNXT, and he talked about how the season is going. So far, the Trojans have beaten South Point and Chesapeake in OVC play, and have lost to Rock Hill 7-3, Ironton 6-5 on a squeeze bunt in the final inning, and then last night lost to Gallia Academy 4-0. The Trojans are playing competitive baseball.

Coach Duncan did say that Portsmouth hasn't had a winning season since 2011. He also highlighted each individual player on the JV squad. As I said previously, participation numbers are up and that is at least a start to getting back to winning baseball at PHS. Coach Duncan has this program trending upward for sure.

Fairland is 5-1. I think Ironton also has 1 loss, but Fairland owns the tie breaker. They play tomorrow night at Ironton in a huge OVC game.
