In 2009, Bendolph didn't play really after the VASJ game, nor did he in the 2nd half of the season b/c he was still living in Portsmouth. He was a neighbour with an opposing SOC coach that had video of him coming and going from his home in Portsmouth. Woodward did the right thing by not dressing him the rest of the season; however, it took the threat of video evidence to the OHSAA first.wobycat wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 8:54 pmYou lost me at bendolph. It's a numbers game, if you have 10-15 Role guys who don't live in WB, that makes all the difference in a program. It don't have to be a star.
Just wait for the screaming from Burg fans when Ironton starts pulling kids that have played at Burg since pee-wee and then have a major impact when they play their old team.
Ironton, Trimble, Waverly, Wheelersburg, Jackson on another level

Fair statement. Irontons Carrico graduated 0 - 3 vs Ashland in his career. Ironton started winning post transfers.vladimir wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:03 pmIn 2009, Bendolph didn't play really after the VASJ game, nor did he in the 2nd half of the season b/c he was still living in Portsmouth. Burg posters, you are making yourselves look stupid. Ironton B_ _ _ _ slapped you for the majority of 40 years and you refuse to recognize it. If it it weren't for a very weak coaching regime, it would be even worse.

Re: Ironton, Trimble, Waverly, Wheelersburg, Jackson on another level
Why all the debate about transfers, etc? This is common everywhere; just ask public schools in Cincy that get raped and pillaged by the catholic schools!
At the end of the day, all that matters is wins/losses. And those wins count equally regardless of the number of transfers to achieve said wins.
Don’t want kids leaving your program for other schools? Then get better coaching, improve the program, and give the kids an incentive to stay.

No one from Scioto Co outside of W'burg is going to listen to any of this. Many football players!!! Who were the “studs” you are talking about??
Two things you clowns don’t get is no one from Burg is saying that a kid or two didn’t come to Burg to play football over the years but never had Burg blatantly brought in 5-6 high impact players in in one season. NEVER!!!!!
Second, like wobycat had tried to explain to you there are quite a few kids that leave right outside the school district and even though they have a Burg Zip code they are considered open enrollment.
Why is that so F$&?ing hard to understand????

How was Bendolph then able to play basketball for Burg that year?! What made him all of a sudden eligible for that??
Like is being said in this thread, sure kids are transferring to other schools like crazy these days but I get sick and tired of reading how Burg has been doing it for years when at most if it’s been one kid, a kid who has not came in and dominated and had Burg had not had this player or players they would have had a horrible season. If someone can give me the name of that player name I will eat crow and never post on this subject again.
If you take away the players Ironton has brought in over the last three years are they even that good of a football team??? I know the Young kid from Raceland was a huge addition the year he came and was a high impact player for them. The kicker that came from West, huge difference maker.
Big difference in bringing in one player to bringing in 5-6 players. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!
Re: Ironton, Trimble, Waverly, Wheelersburg, Jackson on another level
Number 25, 12 and the kicker. I think there were others that transferred in but not sure if they saw significant action but those 3 would start anywhere in our area.TigerBob wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 10:31 pmWhich Ironton players last year were transfers?wobycat wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 8:54 pmYou lost me at bendolph. Exactly! And despite Ironton’s recent success, they have not produced a team that could compete against the 2017 Burg state championship team.wobycat wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:10 pmLast state championship was won by the burg. 25 didn’t start until 24 went down in playoffs, good player but not a major factor last year, admittedly is a stud this yearwobycat wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:09 pmNumber 25, 12 and the kicker. 12 didn’t start period, was a 4th/5th DB and a 4th WR last year, again not a major factor, starter this year
Kicker is a lifelong Ironton kid who went to St. Joe, used that rule to play, not sure that’s a real “transfer”
There were two “during HS” transfers who saw significant time last year.
30 - Came as a freshman, played for previous staff
20 - Came as a sophomore, played 2 years under Pendleton, family still lives in Ironton
So 5 kids, two backups, 1 Ironton kid who used a very common exception, two starters that were either pre-Pendleton or legitimate moves by the family. The rest of the starters on both sides went to Ironton Elementary. Your “5 or 6 starters per year” comment doesn’t hold water.

I think its more of kids transferring vs kids being encouraged to come to a school. But yeah, everyone gets transfers, everyone has kids leave. It happens. Adapt to it or quit complaining i guess.

It doesn’t matter to me how they got there. The point is they got there and they have made ironton way better. I’ve only seen one ironton fan come on here and admit it. Most of the responses are “burg is throwing stones, and so on”TigerBob wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 4:01 pm25 didn’t start until 24 went down in playoffs, good player but not a major factor last year, admittedly is a stud this year

There’s all kinds of speculation about how some of the kids got there. Maybe they are true, maybe not. But admitting that ironton would be just the same without them isn’t accurate in my opinion.
