Looks like they play anybody. I see they have played class A to class AAAA teams. These teams they play are state champions but Ohio vs Kentucky football is not the same. Ohio football is tougher and a football state where Kentucky is a basketball state. Good Luck Pirates!!

Kentucky’s divisions are about as big as Ohio’s regions, plus their football isn’t historically as good. Pikeville is a good program and should be a real nice test, especially on 36 hours of prep.

I have watched Pikeville play in person enough to say most years they compete with 99.9% of the schools their size in Ohio.

Pikeville is the #1 ranked team in class 1A in Kentucky right now. Pikeville scrimmaged Johnson Central and Did well well before being worn down by Class 4A JC. They have great depth to be a 1A school. They return their qb Isaac McNamee , RB Blake Birchfield, WR Zack Lockhart. McNamee is the coaches son. The Coach is Chris McNamee. Pikeville is ranked the 16th best team in the state on maxpreps regardless of Class right now. Kentucky has class 1A through 6A.Johnson Central is Ranked the 7th best team regardless of class. You can get stats for Pikeville on the khsaa riherds scoreboard on khsaa.org.

Cal Preps doesn’t start doing official projections until October 1st. All you can do is project a matchup on a neutral field for now.

Winnable game for the Pirates but it will not be easy. I think the team from the coal fields would remind you some of Waverly in philosophy but a lot more physical and with more depth. Ironton fans will tell you that any team that can compete with Belfry KY is a strong program. You underestimate Kentucky high school football at your own peril. Pikeville is no push over.

Looks like Pikeville has a very nice QB that can sling it with nice size and a massive O/D line.
