I think the team from the coal fields would remind you some of Waverly in philosophy but a lot more physical and with more depth. Ironton fans will tell you that any team that can compete with Belfry KY is a strong program. You underestimate Kentucky high school football at your own peril. Pikeville is no push over.
There are some good football teams in Kentucky. Just not as many as Ohio. Burg needs play it’s best football to win.

Burg fell from 9th to #15 in dv state rankings. They need this one because the next couple are no guarantees. Burg might just end up a bubble team.

My gut says Pikeville by a lot. Wouldn't shock me if Burg could keep it close though since they are playing at home. Those 2.5 hr bus rides can be brutal.

I assume you’re being a troll but on the off chance that you are not...that’s not how the playoffs work

Not a chance they are on the bubble. 16 teams make it each region. Burg could be 4-6 and get in. They won’t be 4-6 just saying no way they don’t make it

I mean it theoretically. Burg might be a 5 - 5 or 4 - 6 team this seaaon. It's real possible. I also think about momentum. If they get beat a couple more in close proximity it may cause burg to lose some enthusiasm.

Burg 5-5/4-6 is real possibility? Not really.

Let’s assume they lose to Pikeville and Jackson taking their record to 2-3. They would still have to lose 2 to 3 SOC games for your prediction to come true. Outside of Waverly, who is the other team/teams that are going to beat them?

Burg will finish from 6-4 to 8-2.

Pikeville, Belfry, &Johnson Central all play hardnose football. Pikeville should be a tough game for the Burg.

Hats off to burg and pikeville pulling this game off on such short notice. I’ll be rooting for the pirates in this one. Always have to go with southern Ohio boys when playing teams from
Across the river.

Only chance for 5-5 would be if West pulls the upset at the end of the season but theres no way they go 4-6. Burg will beat Minford, Oak Hill, and Valley.

Looks like they play anybody. I see they have played class A to class AAAA teams. These teams they play are state champions but Ohio vs Kentucky football is not the same. Ohio football is tougher and a football state where Kentucky is a basketball state. Good Luck Pirates!!
I have watched Pikeville play in person enough to say most years they compete with 99.9% of the schools their size in Ohio.
Yes I know a lot of smaller schools that can play with big schools. Just look at RACELAND the last 30 years beat Ashland and Greenup and others playing at papa John’s many times

The 2021 Burg season has the feel of 2019 season. A 2-3 start against rugged competition resulted in an undefeated campaign through the SOC2 and a two game run in the playoffs. Wheelersburg will be fine regardless of the outcome of this game.

Truly wonder how both teams will perform with such little time to prepare. Sounds like Pikeville has size advantage on the line

Congrats to Burg for finding such a good team to play I'm sure they could have found a much weaker team to play and win. But by playing Pikeville win or lose they get better because of it . Cause the old saying is that your only as good as your competition! And safe travels to Pikeville and hope for an injury free game. And I'm wandering does anyone know when Burgs starting qb will be back? He was in uniform last week and warmed up with the team but had his hand still wrapped up. Also Burgs starting rb #2 Lattimore hopefully he is back and %100 for tomorrow's game! GO BURG!

This game is very interesting. One hand I like Burg. But no way Pikeville travels all the way to Burg unless they believe they’re good enough to win. Very interesting indeed.
Sure hope Pikeville has a charter bus. That’s a trip. This game will go a long way to fan the flames of discussion about OH vs KY football.
