Week 8: Portsmouth (6-1) @ Fairland (5-1)

Post by BuckeyeBlood »

Let’s get this topic going. The Trojans 6-1 will make the long trek to the end of Lawrence county to take on the 5-1 Dragons. Portsmouth is coming off an easy victory over Peake where the starters left mid 2nd quarter. The Dragons come off a pretty easy win over SP. I would imagine their starters got some extra rest too. Both teams currently sit 5th in their respected regions. Winner will get some good points geared towards the playoffs. Portsmouth has won 4/6 meetings between the 2 schools since playing yearly after joining the OVC. The Trojans last won in 2019 at Fairland by 8. Last year Fairland clobbered the Trojans. Should be one hell of a game. I look for it to be very high scoring. Thoughts & predictions?

Should be an incredible game. I think both teams are evenly matched. Portsmouth has the more experienced passing attack with Roe as a senior where as Fairland with Jackson as a sophomore but Fairland has the better run game with seniors Brumfield and Schmidt. Both teams have a sturdy defense. Whoever wins this game, it’s only going to be by a few points. At home, I’m taking the dragons in a nailbiter.

Portsmouth needs this win if they wanna stay in the top 8. A loss will hurt, beating south point gets no points and ironton week 10 at ironton has the Trojans the underdog. Could be a cool night so field will be a little slick. Brumfeld needs stopped and the Trojans need to make stops and play hard.

An ironic twist to this game is that both teams' best game may have been a loss on the road. Fairland lost in OT at Ironton 20-14, while Portsmouth lost at undefeated Waverly 35-34. It will be interesting to see if either team deviates from what they normally do. Will the Trojans still be pass heavy which has worked well for them so far, and conversely will the Dragons continue to chew up yards and the clock with their running game? PHS has been very good on defending a running attack, but the Trojans will have to do better on kickoff returns, as they have allowed 3 kickoffs for TD's. PHS did kick a 29 yard FG vs. Chesapeake, which would have been good from 35 yards. So that could be a plus for the Trojans if needed.

One common non-conference opponent for both teams is Portsmouth West. Fairland beat the Senators 28-27, while Portsmouth beat West 34-7. Both teams will reap big computer points with a win.

I have confidence that the Trojans can come away with a win, and I feel really good about having QB Drew Roe on our team. He has had one of the greatest seasons for a QB in PHS history. He has made big play after big play with his arm and feet. Nobody so far has been able to contain him, and he has a host of playmakers to compliment his skill set. Fairland will be a tough opponent, as evidenced by taking Ironton to OT at the Tank.

This game will probably come down to who plays the best in the 4th quarter. GO TROJANS!!!

Fairland wins 28-14. Portsmouth great on offense not on defense. Fairland is a legit team

This game will come down to the Trojans defense. So far they have done well against the run, which matches up good against Fairland who has two good RBs. Fairland can pass as well but theyre not Waverly's passing attack. Portsmouth has been tested some, but not enough to get a feel with how the defense will handle better offenses. After this game we should have a much better idea of how improved this Trojan defense really is, and im feeling good about it!!

Portsmouth likes to pass, the dragons defense has been tough to pass on with Leep & Kitts in the secondary. This game is really a toss up. It will be close and hard fought. But gonna take my dragons by 6 or less.

Trojans by 14. I'd say 35-21.

If Portsmouth can win the battle in the trenches, they will be hard to handle. Their D-line pushed the Hornets around last week and caused a lot of backfield stops and short gains. Plus their QB is a playmaker.

The Fairland defensive front has been great all year. The fact that Hudson and crew get to the QB so often has helped. The defensive backfield of Kitts-Leep-Brumfield-Bryant has been great add in Hunt and the Fairland secondary is very good. I think the Portsmouth passing attack will present another great tasks and chance for the Fairland defense to show their skills

Lots of impressive stats but the 19 forced fumbles is A LOT. This defense is outstanding compared to last year.

This should be interesting, I think question I have does Fairland have enough speed in the secondary to keep up with the Trojans? Ironton was a close game with Fairland but 2 entirely different teams so almost impossible to play a comparison game there. Should be a heck of a game, going with the home team in this one I think Fairland can do enough up front to pull this one out. Fairland by 7

I’ve seen Fairland twice, and Portsmouth every game. Fairland to me both times I have seen them have been different. Was not impressed with them against West. The defense wasn’t great. Against Ironton I was impressed, defense was pretty stout. Portsmouth has only been tested once, by a really good Waverly team. A game they could have won. I think Fairland may get the Trojans this week. Not sure either team is much better than the other. But I think line play will favor the Dragons and probably be the deciding factor. I hope I’m wrong, because this would be a big win for the Trojans. Side note I hate Fairland visitor stands. Lol

Yes….Fairland Has Worst Stadium In The OVC. Probably All Of Southern Ohio. To Be One Of The Most Wealthiest School Districts In Lawrence County You Would Think They Would Have MUCH Better Facilities!
