Bevo's Record Beaten!

Post by Ironman92 »

The all-time college basketball single game scoring record held by Bevo (113) for over 57 years....just fell tonight. Jack Taylor of D3 Grinnell College (Iowa) scored 138 points tonight on 52-108 shooting. He was 27/71 from three land.

Bevo scored 113 for Rio while the game was played at Jackson High School (currently the middle school auditorium) He was 38/70 shooting and 37/42 from ft line.....same backboards and I believe one of the rims are still in use from that game in 1954....the exact same gym raiderball made me puke from running suicides. Thanks coach. Lol

At least Rio still has Bob Evan's as their claim to fame.

I guess Bevo still holds the NAIA record and the all-time college record without a 3 point line. Would like to see old video to see how many of Bevo's 38 FG were from 3 point land.....without the 3 pointer Taylor would've been two points short.

Bevo also had a 116 point they wiped away due to Jr college opponent

Apparently they are only allowed to play 3 players on defense in Iowa. The leading scorer for the opposing team had 70pts. Around this time last year Grinnell had a kid(who is still on the team) go for 89. The next highest shot total on their team was 6 in this one. Pretty sure we have a candidate for the worst defensive gameplay award at the ESPYs this year. I would think that at 80pts or so I would have double teamed the guy.

The footage of this is pretty embarrassing to basketball. Rarely did he cross half court, rarely was he double teamed and he didn't pass ever....even with two guys wide open. Just pressed full court the whole game and gave up layups.

108 shots in 40 minutes

That's the style that they are legendary for.
Typically 12-15 guys average 15 minutes a game.
They rotate like hockey lines and send a new group in every time they have a clock stopage.

Every year they have one or two games where they get their top shooter to play 36 minutes instead of 13, and they see what happens.

For what it's worth, Bevo didn't have a 3 point line, and if there still was no 3 point line, this kid would have still been 2 points short of Bevo.

I have watched some game film of Bevo and he was a great basketball player. He put up some impressive numbers against some D1 schools. Wiseman who played on the team with Bevo was an amazing passer. Some of the passes he made were well a head of the time. The first time Bevo broke the record the NCAA screwed him out of it so he went out and broke it again.
