Portsmouth open date 9/2
Wheelersburg open date 9/2
Why don’t these 2 teams make it a game?

Portsmouth doesn’t want to play Burg. Guess they got tired of losing to them. I don’t believe either team is open that week though. I know it doesn’t have games listed, but I’d put money on Burg playing a KY school that week and Portsmouth probably going to the Cincinnati Deer Park school that they played week 3 in Portsmouth this past season. BeerGoggles also stated he thinks Portsmouth may have GC KY that week.

Re: 2022 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE
I don’t blame Portsmouth lol. FF is a powerhouse as of recently. Game would likely be one sided and not in Portsmouth’s favor. I’m not saying Portsmouth is looking for an easy W, but I think they probably want someone more on their level. I think they have a game in place down in Cincinnati that week myself though.EasternDspy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 6:09 pm Fort Frye reached out to Portsmouth heard nothing back.

At some point, Burg and Portsmouth will probably start playing again. But it can't be too high on Burg's priority list since Portsmouth just dropped them like 5 years ago. Add in the fact Northwest coming back to SOC II in 2023, and that is one less nonconference game available for Burg. Burg getting ready for a real nice 4-year run, so that will only make it more important for Burg to load up their nonconference schedule. Ironton and Jackson not going anywhere, and got to assume they'll at least keep one Kentucky team on the schedule. Just hard to see a fit for Portsmouth on Burg's schedule anytime soon.*

Re: 2022 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE
Keep hearing rumors that after basketball season the big boy from Gallia is headed to Ironton. Hope it isn't true, that would greatly weaken the Devils.
If FF really wants to bolster it's schedule the only 2 teams in the southern most portion of Ohio that would get them playoff ready would be Ironton or Burg, possibly Ports West next season. They could also look at scheduling Ashland Ky, but a Portsmouth game next season does not help either team.

Been hearing a lot of good things about the Ironton program but I like to let rumors become facts. Like the post from Ironton Football on Twitter says STAY TUNED.

We all know Ironton wins this easily, my thoughts is who is going to finish second. Personally I would love to see South Point get up and going over the next season.

I heard that SP might be on the hunt for a coach. It will be a season or two for a new system to kick in, but I agree, would love to see them get turned in the right directionOleballcoach wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 12:27 am We all know Ironton wins this easily, my thoughts is who is going to finish second. Re: 2022 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE
Okay so Ironton is very likely going to win the OVC everyone knows that. They are loaded, I’m not going to list who they lost and who’s returning, who’s moved in. They have a whole thread about that stuff. I’d like to hear about the rest of the conference here. How do we think the rest of the conference will shake out? Who finishes 2nd? As a whole is this conference going to be down or up from last season?
Fairland: The Dragons should still be good this season, but just how good will they be? They lost some really good players. Schmidt, Brumfield, Kazee, Davis and maybe a lineman or 2? They however do return WR Leep, QB Jackson, and several other key players like Kitts, Rhodes, McKee, Hunt, Martin. I look for Fairland to be in contention if not the favorites for that 2nd spot.
Gallia: I don’t know much of what they lost or what they return outside of Clary and Franklin who are both major pieces. I know at one point last season someone said they didn’t have many kids on the team, I think I read like 35? If that was true that’s crazy for a school of that size. I assume they’ll bounce back this season and contend for that 2nd spot as well.
Portsmouth: The Trojans lost a ton. Roe, Carr, Bryant, Thurman, Poxes, Jones, Maxie, Zurborg, Johnson, Carver and Griffith. All of those kids seen significant playing time, most playing both ways. They will however return Hammonds who handles most of the RB duties, Reade Pendleton, Devon Lattimore and Jayden Duncan at WR. Poxes & Harmon on the line. Tyler Duncan will likely step in at QB. Nolan Heiland is back from ND and will contribute. Truett, Cobb and Livingston will all return as well. QB play will be key here. If Duncan plays well the Trojans can contend for 2nd, if not I could see them as far down as 5th.
Coal Grove: I think Hall, Gipson, Simpson and Lunsford all return. Think Ferguson is gone. Don’t know a ton about CG. I however think they will be solid, typically they are.
Chesapeake: They lost Blankenship, Bragg and a few linemen I believe. They return Burnside and Maynard among many others I’m sure. Don’t think they’ll be very good this season, as they weren’t this past season.
Rock Hill: They lost some linemen, and Owen Hankins who was far and away their best player. Don’t think they’ll be very good this season either.
South Point: They lost some key pieces in Lambert, McCallister and Pegram. They do return their QB and they big kid on the oline. I actually am picking them to be slightly improved. Not sure why, no evidence to really support it, I just don’t think they finish last.
If anyone has anything to add that would be great. I may have missed key players I should’ve listed, I could’ve listed guys who graduated or transferred, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, no hard feelings. Also feel free to disagree with me and give your own rankings. Keep in mind I don’t know a ton about all of these schools, also it’s the end of April so. I’ll say this is how things shake out in 2022.
1. Ironton 9-1/8-2 overall (7-0 OVC)
2. Portsmouth 8-2/7-3 overall (6-1 OVC)
3. Fairland 7-3/6-4 overall (5-2 OVC)
4. Gallia Academy 7-3/6-4 overall (4-3 OVC)
5. Coal Grove 5-5/4-6 overall (3-4 OVC)
6. South Point 5-5/4-6 overall (2-5 OVC)
7. Chesapeake 2-8/1-9 overall (1-6 OVC)
8. Rock Hill 2-8/0-10 (0-7 OVC)

Re: 2022 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE
BuckeyeBlood: Great breakdown of the OVC race in 2022. I do think the Trojans can get 2nd, but it most likely will come down to how the defense plays. The offense is always pretty respectable, and I believe Tyler Duncan will do well at QB. As you have listed, he will have a number of playmakers to throw or handoff to. When Portsmouth has struggled over the past decade, it's been because of their defense.
The only thing that I think is about a 99% certainty is that Ironton is going to win the title. That 1% left is if the Fighting Tigers suffer any injuries to key personnel, which I hope doesn't happen to them or anyone else.
I see the OVC producing at least 3-4 playoff teams, with Ironton having the best chance to win a regional title.
