Waverly @ Lucasville Valley January 11, 2022
Waverly faces a must win situation if they are going to finally claim a SOC2 basketball championship. The Tigers are 7-3 and 5-1 in conference play.
Valley is the surprise team of SEO this season and stand 9-0 and 5-0 in conference play.
Thoughts?

Valley will be charged up at home, the press will be on...the crowd will be electric. All that said, Waverly is the BEST team in the SOC, the slip up against Minford has been long forgotten, so if Valley wants to show SEO theyre for real...this is where you do just that. The Indians will come ready to go!
Looking forward to this one...

I think theyre absolutely capable, I wouldnt call them the "favorite", but if they left the gym tomorrow night 10-0, I wouldnt be shocked. That said, as long as theyre competitive...9-1 isnt bad either.BigBlueNation wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 12:17 pm Should be a good one. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Valley wins this one. I

Tigers haven’t played the last two games at the level they did against Upper Arlington but they were able to pull away from West and Wheelersburg in the second halves of those games.
Waverly will need to play better Tuesday if they want to stay in the hunt for the SOC Championship. A loss drops them 2 games back while a win ties them with Valley for 1st place.
Waverly had a huge 20 point 11 rebound game out of Will Futhey last night against the Pirates. Many of those points came on assists from Robertson. Wade Futhey with 10 points as well.

#3 v #1 ... how can it not be a good game ! @ Valley ... I watched Valley play the "perfect" quarter - a 32 point quarter vs Symmes Valley ... 7 Indians scored, 5/8 from downtown ... the D forced 7 turnovers 4 of which went back the other way for VHS buckets ... this was after forcing 7 TOs by SV in the 1st quarter - the full court pressure for 32 minutes is huge for Valley - the big question is how does it affect a Waverly team who literally "has seen it all" pressure wise ... does the Tiger's ability to break pressure negate the transition game by VHS? does turning the game into a more 1/2 court affair favor Waverly over Valley? ... it should be a great one! THE game of the year so far involving 2 SEO teams(Waverly has played in the other 2 games of the year - vs Newark and vs the University of Upper Arlington) ... if Waverly uses all of their weapons which all focus around Trey Robertson - Robertson scoring the ball inside/outside, Robertson dishing dimes ... a combination of both is the key ... with Robertson the younger, Futhey the younger being threats from the perimeter and Will Futhey being the big man on the blocks - ALL of these are what they have shown vs some of the best teams in Ohio - Newark/UA ... a great one for all who can attend for sure ... it's the 2021-22 season, picking a winner? could be triple OT, could be a blowout either way ... it will be a great one no matter what - of THAT I'm certain ...

If we didn't have a game that night I would be attending this one. I'll watch it when I get home.coop wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 12:25 pmI think theyre absolutely capable, I wouldnt call them the "favorite", but if they left the gym tomorrow night 10-0, I wouldnt be shocked. I talked to a guy who thought Valley was the top of the SOC. Waverly is really good especially on the defensive side of the ball. If Valley can win this one, it puts them in the driver seat. Classic matchup.
Re: Waverly @ Lucasville Valley January 11, 2022
Waverly will handle Valley’s pressure forcing Valley to play a half court game; big advantage to Waverly. Valley will be challenged to score in a half court set and it will be tough to contain Robertson and Co. on the other end of the floor. Waverly with a big, league road win.

Very excited to watch this matchup between my Tigers and a well balanced Valley team! If Waverly plays their game I believe they come away with a victory maybe by 7-10 points. It will be a battle to earn this victory! I know a few boys that play for Valley, all great kids, and they will come ready to play.
Should be a great game to take in. Go Tigers!

This game will really benefit Valley from the standpoint of being a D4 school playing up 2 divisions against a very good Waverly team. In the tournament, few if any D4 schools in the SE district will have played a better schedule than the Indians. Seeing VHS in the regionals wouldn't surprise me at all, and I said before the season that WHS would be a strong contender for the D2 regionals. Waverly's non-conference and SOC II schedule should help them come March.

Will be curious to see if Valley decides to go to a zone at any point in this game. Seems to be something the tigers will continue to see throughout the season and can be a more effective defense if a team is struggling containing Trey.
