Stewart is a great guy, but when you go from a Bowen to a Stewart you just have two totally different styles. The transition has been far from smooth. Administration at Eastern has somehow gotten worse than the previous super

2016 Athens was an 8 Seed, won 5 play-off games, one vs. Hunter Sexton (Jackson) who went on to Marshall. Won a District Championship, and beat Waverly in the Regional Semi-Final before the magic ran out vs. a solid Steubenville squad...
Once Athens knew they were out of the league race, they focused on preparing for the tournament...guess that was a smart move by the coach because Athens won a regional game for the 1st time in school history...
Sidenote, one league loss came during the playoff run where Athens rested their starters and played Freshman...
That same coach you are all trashing then took Athens to a 24-2 record the next season, which happened to be the most wins ever in school history, while winning a league and district title. Athens won another Regional Semi-Final game before yet falling to Steubenville in the Regional Finals...
Chris Stewart LEAD Athens to back-to-back District Championships (in a loaded District) for the 1st time ever, and back-to-back Elite Eight finishes while winning the most games in a single season.
Sidenote, he did this with his Ace Brendan Sano shut down from pitching for most of the regular season.

Stewart joined the Softball Staff at Athens so he could watch his daughter play for 2 years.Ironman92 wrote: Sun May 15, 2022 8:44 pmWhy did he leave for Eastern?questionmark wrote: Sat May 14, 2022 5:04 pm This thread is something...

He left coaching after she graduated, but when Eastern needed a coach after theirs left before the start of the season they reached out to him.

Not a all my friend, I'm perfectly fine in my skin and quite proud of what we have accomplished at Athens and look forward to the bright future our program has in store. Just thought some context was needed for some readers who might not know Coach Stewart and casually just stroll here for a read rather than bashing coaches, kids and a program when their skin is not on the line...easy to do from behind a computer.HamPorter wrote: Tue May 17, 2022 6:20 amInteresting post. Stewart's 12 years at was filled with league titles, district championships and regional appearances but I'm sure if you knew him and asked he be most proud of the boys he helped continue playing at the next level. Jared Cline, Doug Chapman, Kyle Dean, Tanner Wood, Brock Stewart from Athens along with helping Matthew Blanchard from Eastern and Ryan Laudermilt from Southern just last year find their way to college programs.

Here, I'll say it again...2016 District Championship, Regional Semi-Final Win, Regional Championship Appearance (that means Athens was 1 of 8 teams left in case you are not aware)...not sure that falls under "underachieved". I couldn't care less what he did at Athens. Though no one at Eastern would be impressed even if what you posted is accurate. He's doing a pisz poor job currently. But as I said he was hand picked so he can stay as long as the one who picked him lasts, or until someone gets on the board that wants him out.
Hoping our coach hires someone qualified to call the offense.

Eastern will never have another coach like Bowen. Comparing Stewart to him is apples to oranges. If not for corrupt and sleezy administration, coach Bowen is at the helm for the next 20+ years and that man would’ve comfortably won over 600 games at ONE SCHOOL. Yes he resigned, but he was more or less forced to.

They should plow through the district, into the regionals and possibly beyond.
It is exceptional to see the talent on the field after years of sub par teams. The Hocking is the Rebs to lose this year.

They won some. But it's a shame that they forced the best baseball coach in the history of the school out and then brought in a buddy to only start driving the program into the ground. Not good for the kids, but who cares about that when you can hire "your guy"? Same thing with football. Someone tells you not to hire the best candidate who is already established in the school and also tells who to hire, who has issues. The only conclusion I can draw from this is the Southern guy wants to send Eastern down the tubes and then jump ship to Racine when their guy retires next year.
