12th Annual Caldwell Redskin Varsity Boys Shoot-out June 25th!

Post by caldwellbasketball »

The 12th annual Caldwell Varsity Boys Basketball Shootout will be held Saturday June 25th, 2022. We are doing things a little differently this year, games will only be played on main courts at the high school and junior high, no side to side courts. We are lengthening games as well. In order to do that we will only be taking 12 teams. Last year we took 20 and the demand is always high but to put the best product out we are cutting back on the number of teams.

Teams are guaranteed 4 pool play games and a single elimination tournament. Games will be 25 minutes in length and rules will be posted in advance. Cost is $200 per team. Please make checks payable to Caldwell Athletic Boosters and mail to: Clint Crane 516 Fairground Street Caldwell, Ohio 43724. Licensed officials from the east and southeast district will be used. Reserve your spot asap! For more information please contact head coach Clint Crane via email [email protected] or phone 740-221-9008. Thanks!

Who are the better teams in the Caldwell Shootout? Anyone report on how June has gone for these teams? Any surprises?

I have watched John Glenn and Buckeye Trail play a few times this summer and know a little about Cambridge. That is the only input I can provide.

John Glenn is going to be pretty good this year. They have size, some speed and shoot the ball well. They are well coached and have a good mix of experience and youth. I expect them to fight it out with Maysville the early favorite and Tri Valley in MVL big school. I would expect them to be a tough out in the Caldwell shootout based on school and team size.

Buckeye Trail looks young but big. They will beat you up but turn the ball over a lot and don't seem to have a big volume individual scorer. They will give smaller less physical teams problems. They could progress into a above average team by mid season. Lot of growing to do.

Cambridge has a couple of returning starters at guard with a solid pg. Their defense is always top notch. They like to press and play with speed. Their weakness has been outside shooting and they will lack a true big man with experience. This is senior junior team without a lot of experienced depth. Hard to tell but this is a bigger school matching up against a lot of d3s so they will be in the mix. I want to see the cats against JG where a lot will shake out knowledge-wise.

It's also the time of the year we're kids are missing and on Vacation so may see a lot of backups.

I'll be at this one. Marietta shootout didn't show a lot. Too many kids out too early in the summer.

Good breakdown, Burg was up at Huggins camp this week, and I did see Cambridge beat John Glenn right before on another court. Cambridge had a kid with a cast on the bench too, not sure his role, but since he was there I assume he will play a factor. JG had a really big kid, but he's raw right now. I don't get to see many teams in that area, but it was a decent matchup from what my eyes could tell.
