2022 Cincinnati Reds
Re: 2022 Cincinnati Reds
Reds also just traded 3B Brandon Drury to the SD Padres for their #6 prospect SS Victor Acosta
Re: 2022 Cincinnati Reds
The Reds trade activities have yielded 10 somewnat highly regarded prospects in exchange for 5 players who likely would not have been re-signed. Almost all baseball pundits say the Reds for a change did not get fleeced in the transactions. Still prospects are just lottery tickets and it will be up to Reds front office to develop that talent into major league contributors. If they are successful, maybe they can compete in 2024 and 2025. All fans can do is hope.

Re: 2022 Cincinnati Reds
Wow, at least for a day, the Reds are in third place in the NL Central, two percentage points ahead of the Cubbies.
Since their 3-22 start, the Reds are 39-39. It will be interesting to see if the now no name Reds can be competitive rest of the way or if they collapse after the trades.

Re: 2022 Cincinnati Reds
As our new prospects make their way to our various minor league squads, here is an updated list of where these guys rank in our system for just who we acquired at the deadline
#1 Noelvi Marte: A+ Dayton Dragons
#6 Edwin Arroyo: Rookie team ACL Reds
#7 Spencer Steer: AAA Louisville (Absolute stud - .269 AVG 90 H 20 HR 62 RBI this season. Look for him to get some time at 3B this season with the Reds)
#16 Victor Acosta: ACL Reds
#17 Christian Encarnacion-Strand: AA Chattanooga (Another Stud! .302 AVG 105 H 25 HR 85 RBI (!!!) this season. Great pickup!)
#18 Levi Stoudt: Team not yet decided, more than likely AA Chattanooga
#30 Steve Hajjar: A Daytona Tortugas
Needless to say, we may have given up some big pieces but we won this deadline. We went all in on building up our system and will be stacked in the years to come. Mark my words, the Cincinnati Reds have a very bright future ahead of them.

Re: 2022 Cincinnati Reds
Reds place Hunter Greene on 15 day injured list due to right shoulder strain.

Hopefully a preventative move to forestall more serious injury. Probably a wise move given the lost season. From what I have read, Greene was approaching his targeted innings pitched limit for the season.

Cincinnati drops the Field of Dreams game 4-2 to the Cubbies.
The loss was not unexpected or really noteworthy given the Red's recent roster tear down. What I was disappointed in was the game and its production failed to capture the "movie magic" that made the game last year quite memorable .
Maybe it was the lousy teams that played. Maybe "build it and they will come" schtick only had value as a one time production . 2021 was must watch tv. 2022 not so much.

Re: 2022 Cincinnati Reds
This happened after I tuned the game off. Jonathan India was hit by a pitch and airlifted to an Iowa City hospital:
From Cincy Enquirer via MSN:
India, last year's National League Rookie of the Year, exited Thursday's game in Dyersville, Iowa in the fourth inning. India was hit by a pitch on his left leg below the knee in the first inning by Cubs pitcher Drew Smyly. India grimaced, took one step out of the batter's box and bent at the waist before removing his shin guard.
Doctors were concerned that flying might affect the swelling in his leg, the team said, and he rode in a car with an athletic trainer back to Cincinnati on Friday afternoon. India is expected to be at Great American Ball Park on Saturday when the Reds and Chicago Cubs resume their three-game weekend series.

He limped for a couple of steps on his way toward first base, and then jogged for a couple of steps once he reached the bag. The field microphones picked up India telling Cubs first baseman P.J. Higgins that he was OK.
India struck out in the second inning and played three innings at second base before he was removed.
"It's not fractured," Reds Manager David Bell said after the game. "It just got him in a bad spot where as the game went on it got more swollen and he lost all flexibility. He was really having a tough time moving. It has to be significant to get him out of the game, but the good news is no fracture."

Given the rest of the season is meaningless, I feel the club should sit India the rest of the year so he can recover from numerous injuries that have plagued him this year.

Seen it. It was vicious. He's been beaned a lot this season. Poor guy. How is Stephenson doing? Injuries hit the Reds pretty hard this season.Omega wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 5:12 pm This happened after I tuned the game off. Jonathan India was hit by a pitch and airlifted to an Iowa City hospital:

Re: 2022 Cincinnati Reds
Yeah, the Reds lineup the rest of way in 2022 would be hard pressed to be competitive in AAA ball.
Fans just have to hope the Reds front office can develop their newly acquired talent to be contributors to the big club in the next two to three seasons. The strategy is sound. Maybe they can be a NL Central contender in 2025. Then again the Castellini's might trade their prospects for a bag of baseballs to align payroll with available resources. We really cannot trust their baseball acumen.

Re: 2022 Cincinnati Reds
Labor Day is a milestone in the long MLB season. For the Reds, they are 53-79, a .402 pace good for fourth place in the NL Central. They trail first place St. Louis by 25 games, third place Chicago by 2, but have a 4.5 game lead on Pittsburgh in the cellar. Cincy has a chance of avoiding a 100 loss season.
Since the August 2nd trade deadline, the Reds are 11-18 and have lost an additional 10 games in the standings.
There is always next year!
