I think PHS can keep it close for 3 quarters but west ultimately pulls away in the 4th. I can't see west starting off 0-2
Think I read people say this same thing last year…yet West started off 0-2.

Don’t forget they used Pendleton as a decoy. He’s actually their best offensive weapon believe it or not.
I believe Pendleton had a nice game against West last year. Several catches, but on defense was where he really shined against the senators. I’m thinking 10 tackles and a pick 6.
I hate to say that week 2 is a must win. But this is a must win for West. Fairland is a good team. And I know Portsmouth is a good, skilled team as well. But with the talent on this roster, and success of all these grades coming up, 0-2 cannot happen. We beat Fairland in every statistical aspect besides turnovers and lost the game. 4 times in the last 2 seasons we have entered the 4th quarter with a lead, and lost at the end. You can call it Tressel ball, call it laying down, blame it on coaching, I dont know what. But if we ever want this program to be elite again, that's where we have to improve.
This is a rivalry game and for 20 years this game typically comes very close. Looking at the history it goes back and forth many times. You can expect some emotion and close scores. If we don't head West across the Scioto River on Friday night with a win, this team has already underachieved im afraid. Season won't be over, but under achieved on expectations.

If you can’t run the ball and play defense, you lose!
West has had trouble in the defensive backfield for years.
Yes they have and it didn't appear to get any better last friday

The short screens and bubbles they did fine. They do a great job at fighting through the block and getting the tackle. Fastest guy on the team got burnt over top after several bubble screens. And for 4 years we've started a kid that's 5'7 on a good day. He's not a bad player and I'm not knocking his heart. Just math to a point. I don't know how many times I've seen receivers 5-9 inches taller than him going up to get a ball.

Portsmouth is fast. How will west's speed compare? Portsmouth had 4 kids faster than Valley's fastest and that hurt them. This will be a good game friday. I need some good insight on this one for the WSAZ pick 'ems contest. haha
West’s defense gave up 155 total yards. The defense is good.
What West needs to do is get the running game going. Make those corners and linebackers (whom are also the receivers) tackle Sissel and wear them down.
Also need to take care of the ball. West fumbled the game away last year.
If they do these things I think Portsmouth will have a lot harder time stopping West than West will have stopping Portsmouth
There are so many factors in this game. PHS can’t stop the run. West can’t cover the receivers. So I think it comes down to this, can West run all night? The Seisel kid is a work horse bit can he go all game? PHS has 3 outstanding WE’s and throw to the RB out of the backfield. I’m thinking high scoring and PHS can’t make the mental mistakes they made last week. I’ve also been hearing a lot of “west should have won that game” if so, what went wrong?
PHS 42
West 34
