Waverly 53 Johnstown 28 2022
Waverly 53 Johnstown 28 2022
Waverly with the comeback last night to beat Miami Trace 42-39. Jase Hurd with over 200 yards rushing behind that veteran offensive line and Mason Kelly with 4 TD passes in his first career start (sophomore), 2 of those tosses to his older brother Hudson Kelly (senior).
Tigers beat the Johnnies at Waverly last year. No idea what the Johnnies return this year.

As LCF was saying Licking Heights took it to Johnstown. This is a good year for LH. That and the discrepancy in size of teams. Regardless Waverly will need to have a solid foundation and start off on the right foot this game. Or they’ll be playing cardiac cats again

Waverly defeated JM 42-14 in a week two home matchup in 2021. The Johnnies struggled to a 2-8 record last year.

Re: Week 2: Waverly at Johnston Monroe
I was at the LH-Johnstown game.
Their QB, Caleb Schneider, is a pretty decent athlete. Gutsy runner that puts himself on the line for every yard, but he’s also pretty patient in seeing what’s open running the ball. Johnnies aren’t very big on the line and Heights’ D (lot of man free) with 8-9 in the box just created tons of havoc for J-M. On the other side J-M just had no answer for Deuce Caldwell (LH QB that went 1000/1000 last year.) Not sure that Waverly has a kid of that particular gamebreaking athleticism, or not, but you can see on the tape where the Johnstown second level just couldn’t get him bottled up even in compressed fields.

Re: Week 2: Waverly at Johnston Monroe
Will be interested to see how the Tigers come out to start this one after last week. They seem to have grown up some before our eyes throughout that MT game, being down like they were but still being able to keep fighting says a lot about this program IMO. Especially being as young as they are in some areas.
Johnstown isn’t at that standard that they have been historically. The Tigers have an opportunity to go 2-0.
From some highlights I have seen, seems like Johnstown likes to run the ball with the QB and likes to get him outside the pocket with rollouts. He’s not an easy bring down.
I think Waverly will obviously look to come out and rely on the run first and foremost. But I think they will still take their shots and see if they can get M. Kelly in a rhythm, if anything to help out their run. I thought M. Kelly played pretty good last week considering how things were going at times, I believe this is another week for him to be able to sling a few more tds if that run game is going strong.
This will be a very long bus ride for the Tigers and first week back to school. So hopefully those don’t effect anybody too much.

Re: Week 2: Waverly at Johnston Monroe
I like our chances in this one and I think if we learned anything from last week is that with this young team when things start to get rolling those kids get excited and the play increases by several notches. MT was a senior heavy team and I think once we made the move defensively with Hudson back to safety that really started to slow down the passing attack that MT had going early on. The offense got going when it allowed the running game to get going and then started getting the passing game going based off of that. The Johnnies look like they struggle a bit in the secondary so this could be another game to help boost the youngster's confidence. The drive is going to suck so hopefully we don't get off the bus slowly, need to jump out early. Licking Heights really gave the Johnnies problems with the amount of speed they had across the board, I don't think we're as fast as LH but hopefully our speed will be a huge advantage. Waverly by 14

JM 8-6 end of one. Waverly with mistakes but honestly both teams are evenly matched physically.

With the stream not having narrative, kind of hard knowing why the refs are confering so much.
