Re: Playoff Scenarios
I couldn't agree more. How could a team possibly be excited about making the playoffs with going 3-7.
Re: Playoff Scenarios
Agree! I recall several years where teams went 7-3 and didn’t make the top 8. Almost feels like those teams were cheated now lol. I think it was 2009 when Portsmouth, Westfall, West and maybe someone else all went 7-3 and didn’t get in. Every single team that got in was 8-2 or better. Now you have teams at 3-7 or 4-6 who are going to get in and go have to play a real juggernaut that will have their JV teams in for the 2nd half.
Who Dey!

Re: Playoff Scenarios
The playoff system is now watered down. Why? Well it's all about the kids and more teams getting to be in the playoffs.
Then again it may be about OHSAA taking in more money.
I'm going to go with the latter

Re: Playoff Scenarios
Nice of them to do this but just go to the source directly and you can get all these stats & projections. They aren't predicting anything, Drew is..

Nelsonville-York went 8-2 in 2009 and didn’t make it in. Derek Arnold was a senior. Cant believe a team could’ve missed it with 8 winsPTrojan59 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 7:46 amAgree! Re: Playoff Scenarios
Playoffs are horrible now. When my kid played for Portsmouth inside the locker room is a section of the floor that has playoff dates. Kids can’t step on it unless they were apart of that team listed. Might as well get rid of that because about everyone gets in now. The plus it’s extra games to see and it’s for the kids. But on the other hand it feels like rewarding teams for winning 3 games. OHSAA loves it because they get more money and control ticket sales online. Reguardless I’ll go watch since it’s football

Re: Playoff Scenarios
I didn't pay attention last year, but with #1 seeds playing #16 seeds and so forth on down, were there any injuries or canceled games across the state? Curious how this plays out. Football is so much different than basketball (where everyone gets in). The physical difference and talent gaps between some teams in their regions is astounding!PTrojan59 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 7:46 amAgree! Crazy year. Athens, Zanesville, and New Philadelphia all went 9-1 in the same region and missed the playoffs

Then there's 2001, where Newcomerstown went 10-0 and finished 12th in their region in D4. They would have made it easily in the same region for D3, D5 or D6.

Re: Playoff Scenarios
I don’t think so. The 1 seeds prob practice there backups that week and put them in as soon as a lead happens. I feel for those 15 and 16 seeds. They know they don’t belong but no one is turning down a playoff opportunity.DcP3407 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 11:55 amI didn't pay attention last year, but with #1 seeds playing #16 seeds and so forth on down, were there any injuries or canceled games across the state? Re: Playoff Scenarios
Don't think every 15th and 16th seed is a push over just look at Bishop Hartley Division 4 R15. Who ever gets them is going to have a game. Might be 2-5 but has played some major programs close.
Re: Playoff Scenarios
That's a solid point.I know Notre Dame lost their first round playoff game last year in a similar situation that you mentioned. I believe they lost to the #11 seed. The team they played, had played a nasty regular season schedule near Columbus and was much better than their record indicated.Thegreenwave wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 1:32 pm Don't think every 15th and 16th seed is a push over just look at Bishop Hartley Division 4 R15. Anyone know who the lowest see to win last year was? Any #12-#5 upsets like in the NCAA Tourney???

Re: Playoff Scenarios
I called that notre dame loss last year. I looked that team up and the schedule they played and notre dame played nowhere near that type of schedule. There was a 16 that beat a 1 last year. I wanna say division 4 and had some 13, 14s win. Maybe a 15 or 2 I can’t remember.DcP3407 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 2:42 pmThat's a solid point.I know Notre Dame lost their first round playoff game last year in a similar situation that you mentioned. Re: Playoff Scenarios
That’s more of a chance for a coach to build on a program. More practices, more reps for younger kids, and in some cases, a chance to win another game. But win or lose, it’s another week of reps.sportsfan2244 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 7:19 amI couldn't agree more. How could a team possibly be excited about making the playoffs with going 3-7.
Also… every basketball team gets in the tournament. There is always a losing team or a .500 team that goes on to win a sectional somewhere. Not to mention the gate that the school gets from extra games.
Some schools play in impossible situations in a tough conference, but week 11 is a new chance to turn a bad season into a decent season
