Sudden death keeps you on the edge of your seat.
And teams have to play real football. Field position matters. Defense is the key. Special teams is the critical 3rd phaze.
The rule has survived in the NFL for over 50 years. see "The Greatest Game Ever Played".
I am glad they have never messed with the rule.

how is it unfair? both teams get the same opportunity. if anything pro overtime is unfair. whoever wins the coin toss has the first opportunity to score and if they do so, the other team gets nothing, the offense has to watch helplessly from the sideline.

Read my post from above. Make them go for two in overtime after every score not just starting with the 3rd.
