Round 3- #5. Portsmouth West (11-1) Vs # 1. Ironton (12-0)
Re: Round 3- #5. Portsmouth West (11-1) Vs # 1. Ironton (12-0)
I would like to see Rock Hill get this game, but I don’t think they’ll put in for it. They definitely have the facilities for it. Locker rooms may be a little small but other than that it’s great.

We didn’t play that a great game either. Should have been 28-0 and looking at a running clock in the 3rd. Dropped big pass for a pic, overthrown pick, and 4th and inches missed were 3 big opportunities we usually don’t miss. No one’s saying west is the favorite but I would be shocked if it’s a running clock. Have to remember these are all West Side boys. It would be nice to have had a couple from Portsmouth or valley jump on the roster but we didn’t get that luxury this go around.Ray Finkle wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 1:03 pmCA did not play well. They’ve struggled with stopping the run all season and did a decent job of containing Sissel. True, they finally got worn down defensively. Once CA’s RB got hurt, they couldn’t get anything going offensively.SiderBlood wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 10:16 am We played a little reserved last night. A little rusty with some uncharacteristic dropped balls and throws. CA played pretty good overall defense until we wore them out with Sissel. This season has been all you could ask for, we are playing on house money at this point. But every West fan that has watched this team know there is more that can be done, I don’t care who they are playing.
All the pressure is on Ironton. With that team of all stars, anything less than a state championship should be a bust. The clear favorite and can’t really pick against them. Loaded with talent all across the board. If they think they are gonna intimidate any of those boys on the field against them they are wrong though. You are going against some very hard nosed, tough and scrappy guys that have played together their whole lives. Might not have stars next to their name, but don’t let the athleticism fool you. They can match up just fine. They have great chemistry that has been built through the years of playing beside one another. That is one intangible the tigers don’t have. Our secondary has improved. Hasn’t been against top tier QBs or WRs , but they have improved. I’m not saying we are better than Jackson or JC but we could play with them just the same. I’m not making any predictions, just want the boys to know we are all proud of them and believe in them. No one on here is gonna pick you and that doesn’t mean a thing. They think they can win, and they can do it.
20 years ago West went to Zanseville to play a Youngstown Ursaline team in the state semis. Loaded with talent going to penn state and Ohio state. Absolutely no one in the world gave them a chance that night. Everyone was already talking about the Kenton vs Ursaline matchup in the state championship game the next week. Only problem was, Ursaline didn’t get to play in that game. Go Siders
Ironton will win with a running clock next week.

Re: Round 3. Ironton v West
West is playing better than any team Ironton has played all season long. Not saying they're a better team than Jackson, but they beat the Burg and no one thought that was happening. Ironton had better play their best game of the year or they'll be on the losing end of this one.CrackBack46 wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 9:15 amIronton hasn't gave up 34 points all year. I sure hope so!
That Tiger team doesn’t exist any longer.
This edition of IHS FB THAT coach PenTon has developed had so many new threats, that any on offense can be a threat for 6 points each series.
They Finally opened the playbook from the Lutz era, opening with the wishbone & Keyes gutted P-Town on the second play via a deep run to set up the first TD on 3rd play of first series.
Three straight TD’s in 2-3 plays first 3-possessions, & then Coach & Carpenter & Crew opened up the aerial attack for the next 20+ points.
Finally, the mix of offense is in balance at right time & the quick, VERY QUICK D letting very little materialize for opponents.
Penalties cleaned up too!!!!
Just gotta heal up a-few dinged up 1’s & they All Rested after HT KICKOFF the rest of the game tonight, while IHS 2’s & 3’s held PHS 1-s to 1-TD.!!!
So much balance this year & it's apparent & diffuct to dispute. FILM PROVES IT…
BUT, there is still more to come!!!
PW is no joke either & i think will be IHS toughest test since Jackson & JohnSon Central KY.
Still,a COMPLETELY DIFF IHS team has emerged since the FairLand Debaucle & i think the tigers are well prepared for a very talented West Squad & ABSOLUTELY NO IronTon:
FAN
PLAYER
OR
COACH
WILL EVER overlook WEST!
This is not the same team in round 3 last year where they were still struggling without starting QB & also many deeply injured starters that exited post season prematurely, in some eyes, but NOT to those of us who saw no pivotal turnaround like this year…
Good Luck & Health To PwHs &
THE
IronTon FighTing Tigers!!!
IMPRESSIVE!!!!

Ironton 12-0 having a special season and battle tested as always.
Special program. They are built for this.
West Siders have had a great season as well.
Should be a hard hitting dandy!!

West is playing better than Jackson and JC? No way. Ironton does not need their best game of the year to beat west it’s the other way around. If Ironton plays their best game of the year it will be 42-0 at the half.MisterGalliaGuy2016 wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 2:11 pmWest is playing better than any team Ironton has played all season long. This will be a great game between two truly talented teams. I think it will be close! By a TD either way.

Re: Round 3. Ironton v West
Also, yes I'd argue that, relative to the time Ironton has played them, West may very well be Ironton's best opponent. Jackson and Johnson Central are probably better teams in the here and now, but they've also gotten better since playing Ironton.Bfan99 wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 3:30 pmWest is playing better than Jackson and JC? Re: Round 3- #5. Portsmouth West (11-1) Vs # 1. Ironton (12-0)
This has the potential of being a great game. West has sissel and he’s really good but irontons run defense is pretty good. I think west will have to pass more. And if anyone knows west it will be Pendleton, he was a former sider and bet he’s looking forward to this game. Did west not hire him to be coach years ago? If so he may have something to prove.

West would best JC ,they aren't close to what they normally are, that's why Pendleton played them he knew they was not up to par ,just like Moeller, new to get them before this year
Jackson would best west but not any blow out.
Ironton won't score 42 against west if it goes double ot

Jackson, JC, Gallia and possibly CG would all beat west. I get it west is improved since week 1 but explain the waverly game in week 6 , waverly scoring 42 points? and the close minford game? West’s only quality win is vs Burg in a home rivalry game and only scored 14pts with a Hail Mary pass. Ironton has had 1 bad HALF all season and that was the 2nd half of the Gallia game. Ironton is clicking on all cylinders right now and has depth at mostly every postion. West can’t hang for 4qrts vs irontonPinwheel wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 4:15 pmBfan99 wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 3:30 pmWest is playing better than Jackson and JC? No way. Lmao West would beat CG by 3 TD’s and they would beat Gallia. Gallia honestly wasn’t very good. Should I’ve lost to Portsmouth, did lose to a bad RH team.Bfan99 wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 4:43 pmJackson, JC, Gallia and possibly CG would all beat west. Re: Round 3. Ironton v West
Whatever you want to tell yourself. Explain why Ironton about lost to Galia? Im not gonna say we would beat Jackson but we could play ball with them. This wasn’t a typical JC team and I believe we beat them. We beat Galia and I don’t think Coal Grove would be close at all. We had our bad game against Fairland and didn’t pull a rabbit out of the hat like you all did against Galia. Or Fairland last year. Once again, no one is saying West is the favorite. But if you are that delusional, you could be in for a big surprise. You think that we don’t have the athletes to keep up you are also wrong. Like I’ve already stated we got big time players without stars by their names that have been on colleges radars. This isn’t a team of bums that have luckily won 10 games in a row and a conference championship.Bfan99 wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 4:43 pmJackson, JC, Gallia and possibly CG would all beat west. Week 1 in a game that West should’ve won. Don’t kid yourself about that one. But okay then West smashed Portsmouth who smashed Fairland. Means nothing honestly.

Green has a nice new facility. Home side is fine but away side is too small. Would of been perfect and fun.
