It isn’t some mentality thing, Ironton just doesn’t match up at the line of scrimmage, which means their linebacker corp can’t play downhill like they’ve been able to do against basically everyone else they’ve played this year. Carter and Keyes have made a couple big hits when they’ve had space, but SR has blocked exceptionally well.SciotoCfootball wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 1:05 pm Starting to seem like a pattern where Ironton goes from a hard hitting and aggressive defense, to a more timid and arm tackling defense when they reach the state championship. Ironton vs South Range - D5 State Championship

Re: Ironton vs South Range - D5 State Championship
South Range as the season went on was the team to beat in DV and it's no different today. I felt SR was 2 scores better but didn't see them just dominating every aspect of the game, Ironton once again unable to run the ball in the state title game. Ironton plays a tough non-conference and spends 6-7 weeks of mainly joke type of games in conference. Ironton 21 rushes 46 yards, and SR is up over 200 on the ground

Re: Ironton vs South Range - D5 State Championship
With the rapid influx of talent to Ironton this season and the amount of players committed D1 / offered D1, it is fairly surprising to see this result considering South Range doesn't have a single player on their roster with a D1 offer.
It just seems that when a team can have at least fairly close talent athletically, Ironton tends to struggle. I don't know if it's an X's and O's thing or what, but it's been persistent the last 3 state championship games they've played.

I knew South Range’s offense was stellar, but I’m just really disappointed to see Ironton just get absolutely man handled on defense. And they took themselves out of the game early and never got close again.
With that said it was a really fun season to watch. I’m gonna miss these kids for sure.

Everyone likes to talk about recruiting blah blah. I'd say we should all root for whichever SEO team can load up and get the area a title. It's basically what it takes to compete with other schools across the state. Hell send em all to the same school. Maybe we can get a D7 title at Green or SV or wherever

I agree the non-conference schedule is fine but the OVC doesn't benefit them AT ALL at this point. At least 4, usually 5 blowout wins every year. That doesn't do a single thing for the team. Go independent and create a schedule that prepares you for moments like this.Sonny Weaver wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 1:18 pmProbably so.SciotoCfootball wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 1:17 pm If Ironton is going to compete for state championships they need out of the OVC. I didn't think so before, but it's becoming pretty evident that they need to play tougher teams to prepare them for games like this.
They’re non conf schedule is fine, just isn’t beneficial that it’s at the BEGINNING of the season

Seeing people already taking shots at Ironton, but South Range just been destroying teams all season. Ironton put more points up against them than anybody else this season. Not much more Ironton could’ve done.
South Range just been the second-best D5 program in state behind Kirkland all these years, and Ironton now unfortunately still behind them in line.*

How many yards rushing does SR have on the same exact play?? 150-200??
Re: Ironton vs South Range - D5 State Championship
Oh yeah, South Range has been the favorite to win this pretty much all season especially with Kirtland dropping down to DVI.art_vandelay wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 1:33 pm Seeing people already taking shots at Ironton, but South Range just been destroying teams all season. Obviously X's and O's could be somewhat of a factor but I think it has more to do with teams like South Range and Kirtland having better players from an overall standpoint. Yeah Ironton has the D1 offers but im talking about rosters as a whole. Also seems like LOS play has been the huge achilies heel for Ironton in state championships.bbjunky81 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 1:24 pm With the rapid influx of talent to Ironton this season and the amount of players committed D1 / offered D1, it is fairly surprising to see this result considering South Range doesn't have a single player on their roster with a D1 offer.

Oh that stings, SR takes out all of the starters and the backups run it in clean from 3 yards out. 53-27. Ironton great great season but once again you just ran into a team that is just a complete all around team and just a buzz saw in SR.
