TVC STANDINGS – NEW YEARS EDITION

2023 is starting out a lot like 2022 with Vinton County leading the TVC-Ohio and Fed Hock and Trimble on top in the TVC-Hocking Division. Teams stepped out of conference play over the holiday break with the Vikings and Lancers picking up good wins to pad their resumes for the tournament draw next month. Vinton County knocked off Chillicothe 63-61 last Thursday to improve to 6-1 overall on the season. The Lancers meanwhile picked up wins over Crooksville and Western Lathem to move to 8-2.

Some very interesting match-ups will begin the New Year when Vinton County welcomes a good (6-3) Marietta team to McArthur on Tuesday. Alexander (8-3) travels to Fairfield Union (7-2) in what feels like a must win game for Coach Skinner for D2 seeding purposes. The Spartans dropped a close one to Unioto over the weekend, handing them their 3rd loss of the season. This Friday will be sort of a “rivalry night” as Nelsonville-York (6-3),(3-1) travels to Athens (2-6),(2-1) with both teams trying to remain just one game back of Vinton. Over in Glouster will be Round 1 between the Tomcats and Lancers. Trimble (4-3),(3-0) vs Federal Hocking (8-2),(4-0) will decide who takes control of the Hocking Division. Waterford and Belpre also square off Friday as both teams look to remain within striking distance. Only one game scheduled Saturday: Athens at Federal Hocking, which caps off an interesting week of Athens County teams battling each other. Nelsonville-York also plays at Trimble on Tuesday.

In the spirit of discussion and debate, it appears to me that both Vinton County and Federal Hocking are clear favorites to win their divisions. Not saying they can't lose on a given night to a divisional foe, but won't happen often -- assuming healthy lineups.

For some reason my pro Trimble posts keep getting deleted but I’m going to keep saying that Howie and the Tomcats are going to prove all you doubters wrong and repeat as Hocking champions.

VC is in the driver seat-- but the always lose one that they should be favored to win. It will get a little tighter as the season moves forward.
