... EVERY team NEEDS that "wakeup" call game ... when coaches/players/fans talk UP a team (all teams, not just "a" South Webster team) - "kids" begin to "believe" the hype ... sometimes the "kids" and even the coaches are blinded by the fact that they can't just walk on the court and get the W - the practice/the work ethic/ AND EXPECTATIONS to work your arse off has to be there no matter the talent level ... someone IS working their "arses" off to beat THAT team at the top ... if THEY are working their "arses" off and you're not (as talented as you ARE) - you're behind now, playing catchup ... the great thing about playing in a tough league with lots of good teams - you GET to play those teams that are ranked higher than you! you GET the chance to prove you ARE better on the hardwood ... South Webster has the Burg & Valley this week AT HOME, Minford next week at Minford ... with a sleeper team in Waverly @ the House that Hawhee Built in between ... fun times !!!The Ghost of Swanker wrote: Mon Jan 16, 2023 11:58 am That was the worst game websters played in years and was the wake up call they needed and the start of them cracking the reigns on Roberts to get his ass in gear. Since then Websters went back to the zone press they ran last season and it’s worked really good. The losses to Valley and Burg… easily we could be 12-1 but credit to those teams who are also really good

FYI...... Not that it's always the most accurate thing in the world, but the most recent Martin RPI update has South Webster #19 and Paint Valley #31 in D4.danicalifornia wrote: Mon Jan 16, 2023 5:49 am
Uhh, they got dominated at home against Minford. It wasn’t close at all. It was 68-46 and they won the 4th quarter.
Therefore, I’m guessing the ranking is off the eye-test since pfloyd has seen both teams. I’ve seen them both and would also take Paint Valley over Webster, although it’s close. Webster probably has a higher ceiling, but also a much lower floor, as we saw with them giving lackluster effort against Minford.
Paint Valley has lost at Fairfield, at Westfall, at Zane Trace and vs Fed Hock on a neutral court. No bad losses in there, although the game at Westfall was a bigger margin than anticipated.

SW erased a 22 point deficit to 1 point in the 4th tonight but never did tie or lead the game. A good wake up call game, I ain’t mad about it. Sometimes you gotta BANG and let the dawg out of it and put some bodies on the ground to get back in the fight. Remember that in the tournament Jeeps

And doing all of this with no scrimmages and no preseason. Very impressive from the Tigers.pembrook burrows III wrote: Tue Jan 17, 2023 11:37 pm Ironton now with two wins over Gallia, split with Fairland.

Previous years elite 8 would destroy this years. Seems the whole area must be down.

Minford is really separating themselves at the top and they are doing it with incredible efforts from 3 sophomores who lead the team in PPG/Assists/Rebounds/steals. Last night at Valley (one of the toughest places to play imo) Minford got a boost from the role players as Myles Montgomery had what might be his worst game of the season so far (15 points, 5 assists, 4 steals
)
6’4 Sophomore Jackson Shoemaker had 22 points (3/4 from deep), 6’7” senior Joe Hannah had a double double with 20 points, 6’5” sophomore Bennet kayser held Copley to 18 points (really could have been 15, as Jace chucked up a one legged 3 in the final 20 seconds from well behind the arc)
Point is, Minford is long, athletic, good size and strength inside with Shoemaker, smart play and big shot making in Crank and then everyone’s focus and attention is on Montgomery who is averaging around 23-24 PPG. Stay healthy and this group can make a run. The SOC2 is an absolute gauntlet this year and to be 10-0 is something to really be proud of.

Good "stuff" GoAt 10 !!! one of those TEAMS that on paper, in-person - have no weaknesses ... fun team to watch ... I'd throw in Mr. Pica with a mention too - he comes off the bench and "morphs" into whatever persona is needed on the court - "in your pocket" D on the perimeter vs a guard ... "put a body on a body" defender in the paint vs a forward or post player ... get's out in transition ... starts the break ... the young man is the ultimate role player - he does everything for TEAM ... ALL good TEAMS need "THAT" guy - a Jeff Pica ...GoAt 10 wrote: Wed Jan 18, 2023 10:30 pm Minford is really separating themselves at the top and they are doing it with incredible efforts from 3 sophomores who lead the team in PPG/Assists/Rebounds/steals.
