Steubenville won that game vs. South Point. In the regional final, Portsmouth beat the Big Red 72-64 and advanced to the state tournament, losing to Dayton Colonel White 71-57 in the D2 title game.

The star of that Pointer team was Randall Pennington, who went on to have a good career at Shawnee State.

SP beat Ironton in a closely contested game in the Sectional Final that year. SP’s current head coach, Travis Wise, was a sophomore on that Ironton team.
