His Dad, the coach was an all-American at Rio Grande and led them to the Final 4…..also led North Adams to the final 4 in 1996 and got hosed in state semis on a shot 1/3 second after the buzzer in state semis, to the team that ended up winning it all.Tigernation2021 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:43 pm #10, Copas for NA is lightning quick wow. Not sure if 6'4"Buttleworth for North Adams played when Minford played them earlier in the year. Should be an awesome game at OU.danicalifornia wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:49 pmMinford beat them by 15 in January. I would guess it will be similar, but the extra floor may give Copas a chance to penetrate that he didn’t have at MinfordTigernation2021 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:43 pm #10, Copas for NA is lightning quick wow. Given the number of seniors, I don't know that anyone would argue that fact.Hoopster98 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:44 pm I think Valley underachieved this season. Never got that marquee win.

To many cheifs not enough Indians. Very disappointing season.Tigernation2021 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:11 pm Man Valley just looks totally outmatched here, turnovers left and right and simply can't keep up with the speed of NA.

He missed most of the first half of the season with Injuries. He started getting his legs back about the middle of January. When we played them late season,he was getting stronger.danicalifornia wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:52 pmHe did. I definitely thought Valley would win that game, so bad prediction by me. Great job North Adams!
I expected a little more out of Valley also but the jump to D3 may have effected them mentally, who knows.
Valley had a solid JV team but zero got varsity experience. With all the seniors graduating, who knows what to expect in Valley next year.

Thoughts on the Valley game: First, the sloppiest game I've seen them play. You will have that from time to time. Just hate that it was during the post season. Not sure they were mentally ready to play basketball. They would've lost to anyone last night. Only made 2 3's. Still a lot of shooting contested 3's. To me, you have to attack the basket. Penetrate the lane and make something happen. That allows you to either get to the hoop and score or kick it out when the defense collapses for a shot. Not a fan of one on one play that results in a poor shot.
My take from this season is that when this team played together and played as a team, they were by far one of the top teams in southeastern ohio and so much fun to watch. But at times it was one on one resulting in poor shot selection and it just didn't work.
Valley has a lot of talent coming up, especially in the current freshman and 8th grade group. My hope is that they develop all of these guys instead of just finding 5 of them that get most of the minutes. The thing about the 8th grade group especially in jr high that made them really good is that they had 8 guys that you could sub in and out and not lose anything talent wise and they played together and unselfish. The freshman group has 3 guys who are going to be really good in Bender, Powell, and Copen. Next year will definitely have some bumps in the road with new faces but the future is bright.

Re: D3 Tournament Thread
I agree. Valley either thought they could just show up and win or they were ready for it to be over. NA is a very good team and they wanted it more last night. Valley's season was up and down. The future is still bright, but will take some losses due to inexperience, but will be skilled and athletic. Will be interesting to see how next years team looks.
Re: D3 Tournament Thread
Lovely with a 3 at the buzzer to win it for South Point. Not sure on score.
Re: D3 Tournament Thread
48-46 South Point
Fairland hits a shot with 5 seconds left to go up one. TO South Point. Length of the floor with 5 seconds left. #0 gets the ball just inside half court, spins and drains a 3 pointer at the buzzer. About a 25 footer with a hand in his face.

Great defense beat by a great shot on both ends to end the game. Great game both ways, shame either side had to lose.

That South Point-Fairland game was crazy.

Fairland vs South Point was a great game to watch. A wild ending with the clutch shot. Not sure why Fairland didn't foul at half court before a shot as they had fouls to give. With South Points shooting from behind the arc I was surprised Fairland kept up.
