Watkins 8 Athens 2. Watkins probably has one of the best pitchers in the Midwest. Cassidy committed to Pittsburgh. Watkins will hit James. Can Athens hit Cassidy is the question. With Cassidy pitching Watkins Memorial has went to back to back to the state. Athens probably has the POY in Banks in her district. Athens lineup is stacked in D-2 especially in their district but Watkins is a different animal. Good luck to Athens

Being in the middle of the tournament I doubt either team throws their best pitcher

Not sure why they wouldn’t. Different divisions so they won’t see each other again. Softball pitchers are treated a little different than baseball pitchers.

The last thing you want to do is have your starting pitcher get hurt in a meaningless game

Meaningless? Says who? Was the Game on March 26th Meaningless? How about April Game? Sure, players can get injured but it's this type of thinking that makes no sense to me. If you said scrimmage or pickup game , then Yes I will agree but a Regular season game should be treated as such. No such things as Meaningless games. If so, then don't play !

I agree with this to a point. The games in March and April are before the tournament draw, therefore they have more meaning. This is not a league game and it's in the middle of both teams (potentially very long) tournament runs. From a selfish standpoint, I hope both teams throw their best just to see how it shakes out, but I also understand that this could be treated as a tune-up against good competition to get ready for next week.

Neither agreed to this game as a late season "scrimmage"
I guarantee 100% both teams throw their ace and treat it almost like a touornament game.

Wonder Why James didn’t pitch last night vs Wellston. Was Athens looking ahead to the game vs Watkins. If so it backfired on them. Wellston scoring 10 runs on them and only scoring 6. Athens still has a road in from them to get out of the district.

Good luck to the Lady Dogs. Noon start. What inning are they in? Any score so far?

The game was canceled due to the weather and won't be made up.

Didn't know this. That's a bummer. Wanted to see the outcome. Was pulling for Athens.
