Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Ironton didn’t play a MAC team or Kirtland last year. That didn’t help them break their 33 year drought.

You have no way of knowing that. Middletown Madison and Pemberville Eastwood weren't mediocre teams. They hit hard and had a tough offense. I would have put my money on Burg against a MAC team or Kirtland that year.

Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Burg can barely make it out of their region. Present day they don't pose any threat unless its a threat to wear out a couch cushion when the postseason progresses beyond their region.yabbadabbadoo wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 7:20 am

53-27. The final score of Ironton’s state champ game against a non-MAC, non-Kirtland competitor.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 11:02 amJust doing this for kicks and giggles because we canyabbadabbadoo wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 7:20 am

Btw, that ML team was ranked #11 in the state regardless of school size (possibly best ML team of all time), so impressive that Burg could be within a few scores of them. That’s something Ironton could only dream about.

Have no idea how many Burg has even won in football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, etc. And would trade all basketball regional titles for just one state title.
Now Ironton? Regional title is the best they can; state titles in any sport are out of the question.

So much for Ironton “getting out of the region” just to get embarrassed in the title game. But to be fair, that’s as good as it gets for Ironton. It’s not 1989 anymore.
The real debate we should have is: how long will Ironton’s drought continue? 33 years is a very long time, but I think they can add to that. Put the over/under at 50 years?
