He will determine everything for Burg in this game imo. And how Ironton decides to go after him defensively
To Yabba’s post, running back by committee needs to have some success to keep the pressure off Rucker. If no run threat, Rucker could be running for his life and in for a long night.

Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
Last year’s game, IHS came out throwing. That was the most I’ve ever seen Ironton toss the ball around.
Think the same this year, or more reliant on the run?

Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
QB1 is 6ft4 200lbs+ with BIG FAST WHEELS to go with a big arm. I'd expect a very balanced attack and if I were lil burg I'd prepare for a big fast athletic Ironton LOS this season.
3 fast strong running backs and a big fast athletic qb1 with a big arm and fast wheels.
Qb1 also has about a 40 in vertical - just an athelete.

Kid has all the tools. Big. Athletic. Quick. Big arm. And he's intelligent. Gonna be fun watchin QB1 grow into his leadership role this season. He's special. Prototype QB.Tjhtygeverve wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 12:42 pm Very Excited to see the play/adaptation of Ironton’s QB.

Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
No. He’s a senior waiting his turn. He wasn’t needed in that position last year.

I didn’t say the best, but he’s one of the best. Actually he’s just like Hurd maybe a little bigger.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 11:42 amHurd at Waverly will have a say in this
Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
Is the trojan recruit going to eventually snag that position away from the native? Or is he gonna be at WR more?
Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
So then why is it that lil burg has only been able to manage to make it past their region 3 times in the last TWO AND A HALF DECADES while Ironton has played in 3 outta the last 4 state title games?RBH23 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:03 amMr 1989, you are all over the place while contradicting yourself. They can't beat Ironton OR as of last year - ANY RANKED TEAM FROM THEIR REGION - so if ya can't compete may as well slander

As for the “woe is us” attitude with regards to SEO teams not being able to compete, that’s complete BS. It’s been proven SEO teams can dominate the state in other sports, why should football be different? Takes a combination of some talent, exceptional coaching, and rigorous discipline. Ironton had more talent last year than any D5 team in the history of Ohio high school football, but they were not strong enough in the other two areas.
Need more proof? Just look at Kirtland. Before 2006, that program had never won a playoff game! Tiger LaVerde shows up and transformed the entire program into a juggernaut.
Does he recruit? Nope. Do they get lots of transfers? No, Kirtland has closed borders. Do they have exceptional talent? Not even close to the talent IHS has had over the years; probably even slightly less than Burg. Must have a unique offense that is difficult to replicate? No, their offense is very basic and simple.
Yet through great coaching, incredible discipline, and laser focus on doing the basics extremely well, Kirtland dominates.
As an IHS kool-aid drinker, you have settled too long for bad losses. You accept being the Buffalo Bills of high school football when IHS has the talent and recruits to be the Patriots.
Answer: Cause Ironton has more of all the above than lil burg on a yearly basis. More talent. More hustle.

Ironton does have more talent hence “doing less with more since 1989”.
As for the IHS coaching staff out working Burg…. All that effort for a 3-2 record against Burg. Maybe need to work smarter and not harder since Burg’s coach has a state ring.
Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
Hello all, I am driving down from Columbus to finally get to see this rivalry game and was wondering if anyone on here can tell me where is a good place to park and maybe eat before the game?
Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
Hopefully I’ll have a better analysis of burg after scrimmage Friday. Burg has a big line. The two tackles are 6’ 5” around 260s A fullback about that same size. More anxious to see them than the QB play. You can be big but can you be tough.
Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
Since the current staff at Ironton has been in place burg hasnt been able to do much at all. But Ironton has been in 3 outta the last 4 title games.RBH23 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 1:16 pmBurg coach is not Tiger LaVerde.BTWNTHE__ wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 1:09 pmSo then why is it that lil burg has only been able to manage to make it past their region 3 times in the last TWO AND A HALF DECADES while Ironton has played in 3 outta the last 4 state title games?RBH23 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:03 am

If thats lil burgs example of "superior coaching & culture" I'll go with the younger more ambitous staff at Ironton. Much higher ceiling. #lilsis

I'd say they use him about the same way Burg used Makaya Matthews a few years back. He's going to play just about everywhere on offense. Not sure if he plays defense or not. I'd say with him being the athlete he is he will probably play some on defense
