You can't turn the ball over 3 times on your end of the field and expect to win, especially to a more physical, talented team..
Line play, turnovers and CM able to convert on long 3rd,4th down pass plays made the difference last night..

Re: September 8, 2023 Ironton 21 - 35 Cabell Midland (WV)
Midland had a very good game plan. Chew up clock, win the time of possession, line of scrimmage, and win the turnover battle. Excluding the turnovers, Ironton didn’t play that bad at all. Some Midland possessions were 6+ minutes. Ironton’s defense was gassed. You take away the short field possessions and touchdowns and this game is closer.
Give Ironton time. Some of their better skilled players are Sophomores and Juniors. I think that this was a good game for Ironton to play and schedule. That Midland team is good, too. Midland still has Parkersburg, Hurricane, and Huntington on the schedule but it wouldn’t surprise me of seeing them win at least a couple games in the playoffs in West Virginia.

Midland dominated time of posession and much like every year Ironton goes to Canton, exposed them at the LOS
Line of acrimmage, turnovers. = same as it always is on the big stages for Ironton.

Fumbles came cause O line is weak and got swallowed. Ironton got bullied up front just like they do in CantonTaylormade wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 12:31 am Game went as I expected. A lot of good/big plays from both teams. As for Ironton trouble at center was present again. I noticed early on they made a couple changes which seemed to work. We have to hang onto the ball. It's getting to be a big problem. I like how Qb2 runs the offense, he looks more comfortable in the pocket. That said I'm not giving up on Qb1. It was a great evening and great atmosphere for a high school game
Its a trend

The issue is the same.as it has been.GoBigI wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 12:42 am First thing, the “This is the best team of the Pendleton era and possibly the best Ironton team in recent memory” has been laid to rest. Also, stop telling these kids that. Let them find their own identity. This team has an opportunity to be a very good football team who makes a deep playoff run. Also, could we please, from this point forward, put the best 11 on the field…both sides of the ball? No more coaches’ favorites, no more playing because your family has money or power. Play. The. Best. 11.

Ironton needs to find 2 linemen to go along with #52, #55, and #64. Those three have proven to be the only strong pieces to a solid o-line. I feel #78 will come around with experience but they certainly need to find 2 more. If need be, try some of the sophomore linemen. Maybe even throw a lineman number on #22 and play him at guard. They have to find someone who can snap the football. Bad snaps don’t always cause turnovers, but they always throw off timing which often leads to negative yardage plays. Going backwards against a team like Midland produces results like we witnessed last night.

That O line is far from being solid. No push and they are SLOW.GoBigI wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 12:06 pm Ironton needs to find 2 linemen to go along with #52, #55, and #64. #2 should be #1.#1 should be tight end.Big & fast and be #2 Qb.But it won’t matter till the playoffs.
Re: September 8, 2023 Ironton 21 - 35 Cabell Midland (WV)
I meant to say building a solid o line. I agree, this line is nowhere near solid. They are missing 2 big pieces to go with 52, 55, and 64. They have 2 large holes to fill.BTWNTHE__ wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 12:21 pmThat O line is far from being solid. Center is off. Center & QB have zero chemistry. Qb1 is unsure as a result. Qb1 decision making isn't there yet.GoBigI wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 12:06 pm Ironton needs to find 2 linemen to go along with #52, #55, and #64. O line doesn't get off the ball fast. No push against equal or greater. last part is a trend. Center qb1 issues are new and it just exposes the issue even more.
Defensively - same issue. Vs equal or greater they get beat up front. - old trending issue
And the new issue is the 2023 Tigers don't tackles as well as usual.
The other trend: playcalling. Game management & situational football playcalling in marquee matchups are not great.
I'm a lifetime fan. Gotta be honest to get better.

Additionally = We are now going on week 5 and Ironton hasnt shown they can put together sustained offensive drives. They survived by the big play and their opponent being lukewarm offensively.BTWNTHE__ wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 2:02 pmCenter is off. Center & QB have zero chemistry. Qb1 is unsure as a result. Against a team w equal talent or depth last night they were DOMINATED in TOP by a team who can sustain drives offensively. As the game went on they just flexed and started swallowing Ironton. Dictated everything.
Now its into ovc play and a buncha not having to build sustained drives cause big plays will be easy.
Then playoffs UNTIL an equal or better shows up and its over.
Ironton found out last night what I been knowing. Huntington, Midland, Spring Valley, GW, Capital & South Charleston, in normal.seasons ( both down rn) Hurricane, Parkersburg - are all big schools that will give SEO every bit they want & then some.
Midland & Huntington are better than Ironton & burg this season. Those MSAC schools are big and the portal is WILD lol.
Independent Ironton has PLENTY of talent with an hour or so to schedule goin forward.
Burg
Jackson
Ashland
Midland
Gallia Academy
Huntington High
Portsmouth West
Fairland
Fort Frye.
Portsmouth
Maybe u come away 7 - 3 on reg season BUT you will be way more prepared for playoffs. No reason this cant happen. Going fwd reg season sched should be comparable. Only way ya gonna develop as season progresses.

Re: September 8, 2023 Ironton 21 - 35 Cabell Midland (WV)
Good game plan by Midland. Ironton needs to get more creative in getting the ball into Terrys hands. If they don’t that’s in their head coach. Direct snaps, sweeps, screens, slants, whatever. midland is not the top dog in Wv. Right now Huntington is the best team in the Tri-state by far. Maybe the state. Martinsburg may have something to say about that.
