Re: Fairlands offense
Thoughts? 3-1 and lost to Ironton, why would running a shotgun offense limit them to 5 plays?? You really think that's all the bigger their playbook is?Mc1196 wrote: Sat Sep 09, 2023 9:15 am I like Fairland new coach but with this shotgun offense there playing they are limited to about 5 plays thoughts?
Re: Fairlands offense
Im sure their playbook has more than five or so plays . If the coach feels the shotgun is their best chance to win , shotgun it is . I dont think theyll go very far though , theyre to small
Re: Fairlands offense
Putting up a lot of points. They missed on three wide open bombs against ironton or would have had more points on them. Jackson was a little off. He was on fire against Trimble.Mc1196 wrote: Sat Sep 09, 2023 9:15 am I like Fairland new coach but with this shotgun offense there playing they are limited to about 5 plays thoughts?
Re: Fairlands offense
Again people, look at their schedule....they should be putting numbers up against wellston and trimble!!!! That's not surprising nor impressive!!! As far as not connecting on the bombs against Ironton, well maybe being under pressure could be the reason.
Re: Fairlands offense
If I was still coaching at Trimble they wouldn’t have scored 61 on usBarney wrote: Sat Sep 09, 2023 12:50 pm Again people, look at their schedule....they should be putting numbers up against wellston and trimble!!!! The premier offensive guru of Athens County. And the county's best defensive coach for the last 20 years.
Re: Fairlands offense
It is the same offense they were using under Cunningham. The difference is Cunningham was more of a 60% run and 40% pass and they would use some form of a running game. They would run an inside zone, a trap and some speed option they used to run some QB power and inside runs and now the new plays they are only running the ball somewhere around 8-12 times a night the last 3 weeks Kitts is averaging under 5 carries a night.
Ironton gave a solid blue print to slow them down press the receivers and take away the quick screen and make them throw the ball downfield. With the skilled guys Fairland has on the edge they just throw them a quick and let them be an athlete it’s basically basketball on grass with their athletes. They are probably somewhere around 70%pass- 30% run. Will
be interesting to see if defenses adapt and play them

Re: Fairlands offense
Maybe that’s why they went 7-3 last year and lost in the first round. They ran to much with the wrong personnel. There was way to much talent on that team to do that. He dropped the ball with player positions and the team last year. Guys Ironton just gave Midland a game. Midland is loaded with legit multiple D-1 athletes this year. To compare anything Fairland against at ironton is not fair. They are a premier football school in the state of Ohio and that is saying something. Fairland football is good, but not in that class this year or most any year. They can usually compete for around 3 quarters with Ironton til they wear down. Fairland is a really good local SEO team that doesn’t recruit players. They usually always have a decent team no matter the years. They have a good team again this year just not Ironton good.RJShifko wrote: Sun Sep 10, 2023 10:33 pm It is the same offense they were using under Cunningham. Re: Fairlands offense
Fairland was tied with Ironton at halftime last year. An Ironton team that in my opinion was more talented than this one because they had these guys plus more. Fairland gave up 34 to Ironton in the whole game last year, this year Ironton put that on Fairland in the second quarter. To try and take away what cunningham did at Fairland is just ignorant.Jonjon wrote: Sun Sep 10, 2023 11:18 pmMaybe that’s why they went 7-3 last year and lost in the first round. Re: Fairlands offense
Exactly at no point was anything in the comments bashing what they are doing currently they are 3-1 and 0-1 in the OVC with the Ironton loss and they put up big offensive numbers against Wellston and Trimble that’s great but for it to be that they went 7-3 last year with almost the same skill guys playing the same positions turning into a post claiming that Cunningham had kids playing wrong spots is funny especially when they had to deal with the injury to Jackson without a true backup QB option tough to win games without a QB.Ohio1979 wrote: Sun Sep 10, 2023 11:39 pmFairland was tied with Ironton at halftime last year. So if the reference point claiming this offense is working is the big output against Trimble and Wellston that’s great the counter argument would be a 62-14 loss to Ironton after a 7-7 first quarter a game in which they didn’t run the ball much and could not sustain drives with their quick passing game and had a few deep balls where if they connect it’s a different game unfortunately for them they didn’t connect and Ironton capitalized off the quick possessions. Just appears that for other teams the way to slow down the passing game would be to play press coverage to take away the quick passes and force them to either run the ball more or throw the deep ball and take your chances. It’s not a crazy connection to make when they weren’t able to move the chains with the screen game they didn’t sustain drives and Ironton put it on them.
Re: Fairlands offense
I’m confused. So Your saying Cunningham had the same kids last year and did a great job and went 7-3 and lost in the first round of the playoffs? Cunningham lost that team last year. He knew a lot of the starters were not playing for him this year if he stayed. That’s facts and everyone from proctorville knows it even if you don’t. Seems like someone is bitter about not being his replacement.
Re: Fairlands offense
I am saying they were a solid 7-3 football team last year that made the playoffs. Last I checked they made the playoffs under Cunningham 4 of the last 5 years he did a good job as the head coach at Fairland. At the same time this year they are 3-1 they are off to a good start.Jonjon wrote: Mon Sep 11, 2023 8:33 am I’m confused. Wish the team nothing but luck as they play their last 6 regular season games and onto the playoffs. There is a lot of talent there and it’s a good job of course I would be interested in it as a football guy.
Re: Fairlands offense
Hard to snap to quarterback in shotgun and hand it to a running back standing still just don't think Kitts is getting used right but I like Jackson as coach great guy
