September 15, 2023 River Valley 6 - 40 Meigs

Post by *D1* »

The players are starting to listen again this like they did in the first parts of the CG game. If they listen and do what they’re told Friday night everyone will get to see what happens when our offense and defense are both clicking at full throttle. I predict that we’ll be releasing the monsters that we built in the offseason and get a big win. I can feel us starting to turn the corner and heading to a playoff run.

Right now, the way things are going for both of these schools neither one should do much walking with their chest out. A win here for either one will not be the turn around.

No way it’s that high scoring. I predict 0-0 away end of regulation with someone winning 6-0 after about thirteen overtime’s.

Pulling for Meigs and Athens the rest of the way. GA might need those fractions of points for playoff seeding

Meigs has given up 179 points in 4 games.
River Valley has given up 173 points in 4 games.
Meigs has scored 42 points in 4 games.
River Valley has scored 27 points in 4 games.
Neither team has much to crow about.
Meigs has played bigger schools.

River Valley with the home field advantage. In past years Meigs would not have thought twice about being able to beat RV. Things have certainly changed recently. Should be a very good ballgame. Hope for an injury free game for both teams.

If Meigs loses to River Valley the coach should be fired before he can step back on the bus

This is not a shot at RV but Meigs should win by a whole bunch. RV is really struggling right now. Last week against NY the running clock started with 6 or 7 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. Hopefully both teams can just get out without any injuries.

OHSAA rule state that the running clock doesn't start until 2nd half.

1.64) Point Differential/Running Clock: After the first half of regular season 7th-8th
grade, sub-varsity and varsity contests, any time the score differential reaches
30 points or more, a running clock shall be used. After the 30-point differential
has been met but the score drops below 30 points, the clock reverts to regular
timing.
Running clock procedures, which include when the clock will still be stopped,
are published on the OHSAA website and in the OHSAA Football Manual.
Note: The use of this rule does not preclude the use of NFHS Rule 3-1-3, which
reads: “A period or periods may be shortened in any emergency by agreement
of the opposing coaches and referee. By mutual agreement of the opposing
coaches and the referee, any remaining periods may be shortened at any time
or the game terminated.”

Both coaches and officials agreed in the 2nd quarter to run the clock, then both pulled their starters.

I've had to sit through several games that last couple years where I wished the coaches and officials would start the running clock early! Just brutal to watch.

Yea I agree… think this might be the first one since the rule started where I’ve seen them actually start in the first half. Was shocked when they announced it over the loudspeaker.
