Pendleton does good getting talent and promoting the program, but game planning and execution are not his areas of strength. His coaching during the Burg game this year was really bad, especially the boneheaded decisions made near the end of the game resulting in Burg getting the ball back.

As of now, Pendleton’s success is due to having the most talented team in all of D5 each and every year. That massive advantage is covering up poor coaching.
Let’s put it this way. Would this post or conversation be happening if Pendleton didn’t take Ironton job 5 years ago?
If Burg was playing clean with most losses coming just to Ironton, then you would be correct. But Burg is losing three other games each year not against Ironton. And the same problems are showing up in those other games as well.

Beating Ironton is always a plus, but that’s not the ultimate goal (or even in the top 3-4 goals). Winning SOC always comes first, followed by making playoffs, winning region, and winning state.
Do you see Wheelersburg beating Ironton or Jackson in the near future ?
Hell no. No chance. Quit telling us how big and fast the team is every offseason. Quit giving them everything. Make them earn it on the field. Do something in the off-season that produces competitive hungry kids that have what it takes to win games when the other team is just as talented. Girls teams at burg have that, boys have lost it
I remember a cpl yrs ago on this site over summer, burg fans kept commenting ad nasuem talking about their "superior coaching", "superior culture" and "lightning speed." Then week 1 came, at Tanks, and Ironton hung 40 on them.
I remember that as well. Didn’t the season end with Burg beating said Ironton team in the playoffs?

What was the score later that year in the rematch? Can't remember?
How does 1 win negate consistent recent struggle vs Ironton? What happened AGAIN this year week 1?

Remember when Ironton beat Burg THEN beat all the other teams that beat burg just last season? Burg is playing catch up like it or not. Cant deny it.

When ya car don't run as good as it use to ya neighbors nice new "Hellcat" gives ya a greater sense of urgency. lol
Pendleton is starting to dominate Woodard. On and off the field for his program. #pressure

Quit feeding them every week, that should be earned, make them drink out of the hose again when practicing on the track for gods sake. Go ask the girls coaches what they do to produce kids that refuse to lose because the boys have lost it in all sports

Like where your mind is at with regards to football, but may be off with the other boys’ sports.

Last year’s boy’s soccer won SOC and district, track was SOC co-champ, baseball won SOC and regional runner up…. Not sure about golf, tennis, swimming, etc. They did good in many sports.

Tbh based on recent trends the playoff win for burg looks more and more like an anomaly over last 5 seasons or so. Burg struggles with ranked teams in their region.

Burg struggles with good teams period. Burgs kids just don’t make big plays at crucial times anymore. It’s always the other teams players doing it. It also hurts that we no longer have the best player on the field anymore. Ironton had the best player on the field, Jackson had the best player on the field.

Burg has won their region 3 times in 2 and a half decades. The fall off has been gradual. Thats 3 times in about 25 years. How are they even in the same sentence with Ironton?.They really shouldnt be if we are being honest and remove all bias.

The Ironton kids get TONS of D1 looks and eventual commits.

Wonder why the burg kids dont? Is the burg staff falling short in that area also? #outworked. 😉

Matter fact, The Cabell Midland program gets more d1's than burg also. 👀

Convinced yet?

6th game if the season, and Burg O has made zero improvement since the first game.

Here are the cold facts:
- Game planning on O is consistently bad. Spread against HP does not work for Burg. O coaches need to quit forcing it!!
- Burg O and coaches cannot solve the turnover fiascos. This is inexcusable. Not Burg football at all.
- Burg O does not appear to have any identity. Again, inexcusable given we are at game 6.
- Burg has lost 4 out of the past 5 against Jackson and IHS. Has lost three in a row against HP.
- This will be the third season in a row with at least four losses. No coach has accomplished that terrible feat since pre-Ed Miller. Over 50 years!!

This Burg team has talent and very capable of being really good. Could easily be undefeated at this point. But the O coaching and execution is beyond terrible. These coaches are wasting this team’s potential.

Woodward needs to fix this!!!!!!

Agree that big plays have hurt. But let’s see how the D looks when the O doesn’t turn it over 3-4 times in these game. The D has shown the ability to adjust in big games (ie IHS game), but the O is committed to giving the game away.

If you look at Burg’s losses in the past 3-4 years, it comes down to losing the turnover battle and/or not being able to score after the half.

Burg got beat by Jackson and Ironton

Jackson and Ironton, and some burg fans think burg is falling off.

I don't. Let's wait to see what the season ends up like and then we can brag how great we are or aren't.

Undefeated?
