I'm surprised by the score. I didn't make a prediction because I thought it would be a toss up honestly. Congrats to the Pirates and best wishes to the West Side. Second season starts next week.. Everybody 0 and 0

Burg allowed 14 points to the Entire SOC
Congratulations and go make some noise in the playoffs!
Offense is playing much better late in the season. Open up the passing game with Lattimore and you guys could make a huge run. Wheelersburg is once again a dark horse for the region.

Great win Burg!! That first run by Warren set the tone early!! Burg's defense gave up the one score and then held there own.
Number 2 for West was a nice, hard-nosed runner. Man, West had a HUGE O-line!!! 66 was mammoth!!!
On a side note. Did anyone ever hear who won split the pot? I heard them announce the game ball winner but not split the pot. Never heard how much was in it or anything.

Burg flexes their muscles in the SOC. I like the way they’re headed into the playoffs as always a tough out for anyone on any given day.

PREPARATION is why they are always in games. We lost the night all the way across the board. Just not much good at all.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: Fri Oct 20, 2023 11:06 pm Burg flexes their muscles in the SOC. Also the numbers advantage Burg has. West has some really good athletes but just not enough bodies to handle Burg’s onslaught.SiderSammy wrote: Fri Oct 20, 2023 11:10 pmPREPARATION is why they are always in games. For West to win in this matchup more often, they have to get their numbers up.

I just watched Football Friday night and they had that play on there and it was clearly short and even lost control of the ball. Regardless West has to play better than they did tonight.SiderBlood wrote: Fri Oct 20, 2023 8:03 pmLooked visibly short to me and besides that I didn’t think the back was set before the snap. Killer way to go to the half.Hylander wrote: Fri Oct 20, 2023 8:02 pm Anybody at the game have a clear view of Burg’s third TD? It looked clearly short on stream. I was surprised they ruled it a TD.

Anyone overlooking the Pirates do so at their own peril.

Agreed…can’t believe West roster size hasn’t grown with the job Gilliand has done since taking over. Burg’s depth is just next level as they got juniors barely seeing field who would start at most other schools around the area.RBH23 wrote: Fri Oct 20, 2023 11:17 pmAlso the numbers advantage Burg has. West will never do it, but they should change their pee wee program model to how Burg does it. Take their kids and have 3-4 teams playing each other instead of 1 team/grade level chasing pee wee super bowls. That would get West’s high school numbers up in a few years*

They tried having their own pee wee, didn’t have enough kids. I believe it was probably 8 years ago.art_vandelay wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:36 amAgreed…can’t believe West roster size hasn’t grown with the job Gilliand has done since taking over. Why is that? West and Burg are about the same size with regards to students, but Burg football has nearly double the players.BigBlueNation wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 8:35 amThey tried having their own pee wee, didn’t have enough kids. West seems to have a good coach. They have some really big linemen. Have some good athletes at the skill positions. But the lack of depth puts them at a disadvantage against Burg.

Last night people witnessed why you do the above with your program. Parents and the their chase for meaningless “super bowls” don’t mean squat in the bigger picture. Then you fail to develop the kids throughout the program even in Middle/High School. Developing players should be the only focus PERIOD. Everything else SHOULD take care of itself at the Varsity level.art_vandelay wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 7:36 amAgreed…can’t believe West roster size hasn’t grown with the job Gilliand has done since taking over. Attitudes and discipline are the other killers for our program.
Some things will never change though.
Re: October 20, 2023 Wheelersburg 35 - 7 Portsmouth West
This wasn’t the game we all expected at all. This Burg team will be dangerous going further. West got humbled and will need to heal up and regroup. Best of luck to both in week 11.
WWE HALL OF FAME
Re: SOC 2 Championship (8-1, 5-0) West @ (5-3, 5-0) Wheelersburg
Used to see it a lot at Minford in jr high. They would play huge kids in the backfield that everyone knew would be lineman in high school. They thought it was funny watching 280lb kids runover and dominate 125lb kids. All it did was hurt development and hurt their high school programSiderSammy wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 10:51 amLast night people witnessed why you do the above with your program. Learning how to win at pee wee/middle school levels is always part of the equation, but it’s not the end game. Player development is.*

Read a few posts on here about Burg’s numbers compared to West’s. Burg is around 70 I think. How many for West?
