October 27, 2023 Portsmouth West 15 - 27 Heath
Re: D5 R 19 #9 Heath @ #8 West
West is healthy, and I believe we take care of business at home. I believe Bishop will have a big night in special teams and Parker takes advantage of his o-line being more physical upfront.

These #8/#9 games are typically very good and I know Heath has a few very nice skill kids

Should be a good game. I worry a little bit everytime we play a spread and pass happy team, but hopefully our D line causes havoc in the backfield to force some bad throws and turnovers. Hoping that Parker and the freshmen Bishop brother run hard and control the clock and wear them down over the course of 4 quarters. I think senior Bishop will have a big game tonight too. Freshmen Bishop is going to be an absolute stud. Defend The Rock boys, seniors take it all in and give it your all. Leave no doubt. Underclassmen, take it all in and use the experience for motivation and experience. Go Siders.
On a side note, $15 a ticket is absolutely ridiculous. Life is already hard enough. We live in a place where a lot of people are trying their best to get by and the OHSAA decides to raise the prices and add more teams just so they can fill their pockets. All while the school gets nothing from it. Every AD in Ohio needs to get together and take a stand. I would even bring it up to the governor that something needs to be done, a lot of corruption for a long time has been happening within the OHSAA.

Congrats to heath on the win. Thought the senators had a little more gas in the tank tho.

Wonder what’s going on down there? I really feel West underachieved.

It’s sad for the players really, we have some really good players. They are just at a disadvantage when it comes to preparation.
Hard to beat good teams that way.

Heath was a very good offensive team that plays great competition. The most explosive team that West played the entire year and West held them to their 3rd lowest point total of the season. Their defense wasn’t great and was weak at stopping the run. West was up 9-0 and 9-7 at the half. Hard to say that you aren’t prepared.

Not sure why the fans are so down on the team. West lost three games this year, all against good teams. Fairland was a toss up type game and the results showed that. Burg was a tough matchup given Burg’s D and the game being at the Ed; would have been an upset if West won. Heath, despite being the 9th seed, was probably the favorite in this game. They are a good team that’s played some good competition.Westfan wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 8:51 am Heath was a very good offensive team that plays great competition. West has a good coach and some really good players. The problem is simply numbers to get to the next level. Next step is to build up participation in the younger grades that carry into high school.

The coach needs to gain control of his team including some of the the assistants. Negativity breeds negativity, You can’t expect players to want play for people who don’t believe in them.RBH23 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 10:55 amNot sure why the fans are so down on the team. Coach them hard, but don’t forget to build them back up. Also, you can’t expect your team to succeed when you’re constantly so predictable. When something isn’t working you have to adjust period or losing inevitable.

Agree with you on negativity breeding negativity. And the coach has to gain control of the team and the program; assistants need to be in-line.SiderSammy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 12:23 pmThe coach needs to gain control of his team including some of the the assistants. As for predictability, that’s not necessarily bad. Some of the best programs are extremely predictable but just very good at what they do. Ed Miller when coaching Burg was incredibly predictable, but his teams executed at a very high level. Hence the success.
Kirtland is the same while executing at a level beyond Ed coached teams. Some posters even complain about how boring it is watching Kirtland’s offense. But this is what contributes to their success. They run simple plays and execute extremely well. The team has lots of players giving them depth while also providing experience; don’t see Kirtland starting many sophomores and freshmen. Teams are consistently starting and playing seniors and juniors, then just reload each year.
