SOC 1,2,3 Rankings

Post by jujubean »

With the new conference alignments, how do the rankings shake down? Also, I have no idea what the conferences will be called. Hopefully the small school division is not SOCI and the largest division SOC 3 (although South Webster and Valley are both smaller than Oak Hill and Northwest)

Minford
Wheelersburg
South Webster
Valley
Waverly
West

Eastern
Western
Northwest
Oak Hill
Symmes Valley
South Gallia

Notre Dame
New Boston
St Joe
Green
East
Clay

No research, this is just my gut feeling. Prove me wrong.

Minford and South Webster will battle in the big SOC.
I l believe Northwest is the front runner in the middle division they return all five starters from a team that won 15 games last season. They have alot of varsity experience having 3 four year starters.
I would have to think Notre Dame is the favorite in the small division.

Forgot about NW last year's success. First 5 are very good. A full/healthy year of Lintz with Boling, Jenkins and Lewis all seniors should be a good squad. How will their depth be?

Only time will tell on the depth.

Minford
Webster
Burg
Valley
Waverly(w/o Haynes and others)
West

Eastern
Northwest
Western
Oak Hill
Symmes
South Gallia

ND
St Joe
New Boston
Green
East
Clay

I really think the middle division will be the most competitive as Eastern, Northwest, and Western will all compete for that top spot. The larger division is Minford, I think Norm will have Webster ready and Burg is right there too. Waverly could compete at full strength but hearing kids aren't playing is not good for them. There's only so much Freshman can be expected to do. Small league is ND's to lose. Looking at schedules it's really cool that we will see match ups this year that we would never see in the past, for example Burg vs Western.

SOC 3 is a toss up between Webster and Minford. I personally think Webster will come out on top. Burg will be good but are still a year or 2 out from winning the league. I just think Minford and Webster for the next 2 years will battle for the top spot. Valley will be young but have Copley to lead the way. I can see them winning a few games that they aren't expected to win. They should be 2 years out from having a few really good seasons. They have a great sophomore and freshman group. Not really sure what Waverly and West bring to the league this year.

Webster is the cream of the crop in 3. The exchange student from England is a difference maker. Their depth may not be very deep, and Stormin Norman on the bench will be the difference
Burg has more depth than minford but I think talent is pretty equal.

It’s kind of ridiculous having Northwest in the middle division. They have much larger enrollments than Valley and South Webster and quite possibly Burg and West as well. Come on man ….. playing schools like they will be playing in their division !!! Should be a cake walk to the championship.

NW doesn't have the enrollment size they use to they are not bigger than all you mentioned and not much bigger than the others

It’s minfords to lose until proven otherwise. I do think Webster will split the series though. Not really sure what to expect out of the team this year with Norm. Guess we’ll see in about 2.5 weeks

Exactly. People keeps thinking Northwest is alot bigger than all these schools but their not.
Did some very quick research on the OHSAA website for school enrollments used for the 2022-23 and 2023-23 school years. Here are what they showed with the first number being boys enrollment and second number being girls enrollment.

Waverly 240 - 208
Wheelersburg 176 - 157
Minford 167 - 147
West 160 - 162
Valley 122 - 109
South Webster 86 - 113

Northwest 160 - 156
Oak Hill 147 - 137
Eastern 109 - 87
Symmes Valley 94 - 89
Western 93 - 82
South Gallia 75 - 81

So based on some pretty easy research….. YES Northwest is tied as being the FOURTH largest school overall In enrollment numbers in the SOC in boys. In girls they are FOURTH overall as well, but only one girl away from being the THIRD largest SOC school in enrollment. So some of the information that people have been fed about Northwest’s enrollment being down and much lower than other schools is not accurate.

In their middle division in the SOC Northwest has 13 more boys than Oak Hill, 51 more boys than Eastern, 66 more boys than Symmes Valley, 67 more boys than Western, and 85 more boys than South Gallia.

In girls Northwest has 19 more girls than Oak Hill, 67 more girls than Symmes Valley, 69 more girls than Eastern, 74 more girls than Western, and 75 more girls than South Gallia.

With all that being said, at the top in the middle SOC boys division it’s going to be a three way battle between Northwest, Western, and Eastern.

Top SOC it’s all Minford, and lower SOC Notre Dame
