Ironton has got to be the frontrunner. I think Chesapeake will also be dangerous with their defensive intensity. South Point lost a very good pass first PG and 3 big men from last year so they may struggle to rebound. Fairland looked awful at times last year, i cant imagine they will be better than 4th. Portsmouth will go 8-5 and beat some of the top teams.

I just saw Coal Groves schedule. I know it’s not OVC related, but they’re heading to Cherokee NC for their holiday tournament right after Christmas. They traveled there in 2017 and came back as runner-up. Tournament is fun to watch. There were teams from Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia I believe.

Facilities were amazing! The school was a great host. Plus lots of historical sites to visit during down time.

SP is champ until someone knocks them off. Lovely is the best scorer in southern Ohio.
Ironton has a ton of athletes
Fairland and Peake have a lot back. Peake has a lot of young talented kids. Fairland has Allen/Buchanon/Davis and a lot of depth
Port has a strong scorer in Berry and some young talent.
Gallia has Franklin and some good depth
CG has OJ back and healthy along with some young good players
RH has Porter and some young talent.

Feel like this will be a big turnaround in the right direction for the Portsmouth Trojans and Coach Lisath.

The OVC is balanced enough that the champion most likely won't go undefeated, and could possibly take the title with 3 or 4 losses.

I have seen every OVC team play so far and I am by no means an expert, but this is where I would rank them right now.

1) Fairland - They 100% look the part right now. Very deep.
2a) Ironton - Athletic, quick and physical.
2b) Chesapeake - Young and already competing, 2nd half of the season they will get a few upsets.
4) South Point - Lovely is the guy, but not much help around him.
5) Portsmouth - They are more discipline and structured, just missing pieces. Losing Latimore hurt.
6) Coal Grove - Owen Johnson will keep them in games, have some decent size. Very young.
7) Gallia - I expected more out of them, they will definitely improve as the year goes on.
8) Rock Hill - Bad! No other way to put it.

Very good assessment of OVC so far. I’ve saw every team play so far. It is going to be a dogfight. I would say there is no CLEAR front runner for OVC title. There are 4-5 teams that are really good. Ironton, Portsmouth, and Fairland are all long and athletic with several scorers on each team. South Point is the reigning champs and has the best player in the league but IMO lack surrounding cast to repeat. Chesapeake has some really good players and some size and are going to win a lot of games and be close to top of OVC. Can’t wait for season to unfold and see who comes out on top.It WILL come down to which team team can play best as a TEAM and come together every game against a stout conference. I see the league winner being a tie with 2-3 losses. Good luck Dragons. Come together.
