do you think the difficult schedule is making the program better or is it just adding 2-3 sure fire losses to the schedule every year. I'm not sure were going any farther in the playoffs than we would without playing ironton, jackson and prep. I'm starting to see after all the losses that the kids go into those games now not believing they can win. If you can go watch the prep playoff film. Some of our kids appeared to be going through the motions? maybe its just me expecting to much. Asking because I think you know Burg football and respect your opinion
There is a lot on the burg kids. First there is the pressure of winning. I know they practice long hours week in and week out. They also have leadership breakfast early morning on game days. Not sure if that makes them gassed towards the end of a long season. I think back just the last three years and burg was regional runner up two out of the three years and we’ve had more talented past teams. Prep is just a recruiting machine like Hartley back in the day. Tough to overcome.
It’s hard to say if the kids are gassed. They seem to build momentum towards the end but this past game they weren’t very sharp. So who knows.
I think the 2022 group might have been better if there qb hadnt quit on them and moved to PHS

Burg has the talent to win. Do pretty good on D. Sp teams always good. Their personnel doesn't fit the offense.fbnut wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 4:53 pmhonest reply, thankswobycat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 4:47 pmI think you are who you are. Tough schedule or not. They also play an insane JV schedule for development. So those kids have seen elite many times.RBH23 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 4:22 pmStrength of schedule is overrated. Don’t want 10 cupcakes, but don’t want a bunch of tough games either. Kirtland plays a couple decent teams every year with most games being blowouts. They do just fine come playoff time.
I’d argue that small schools playing too difficult a schedule is bad for playoff success. Just don’t have the depth to handle many competitive games.
But we’ll see next year how well Ironton’s tougher schedule helps them.

Per recent success vs teams in the region, Ironton has the athletes to play up.TigerBob wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 6:40 pmThey also play an insane JV schedule for development. Burg. Not so much. Still trying to be competitive locally. Maybe in a few years if they continue to evolve talent wise.

Playing up year in and year out as a D5 school is tough. Will take a toll.Tri_State79 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 11:42 amPer recent success vs teams in the region, Ironton has the athletes to play up.TigerBob wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 6:40 pmThey also play an insane JV schedule for development. I agree man. Especially with no buy week vs deep physical rosters. It's gonna take its toll.and it's gonna demand the coaches step their game up. Pressure is on the sideline in 24 for Ironton.RBH23 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 12:26 pmPlaying up year in and year out as a D5 school is tough. I think the season is gonna be a real grind.
Lets use Ironton as an example. I've seen speculations about the 24 schedule so let's go on that for now.
Burg
Jackson
Midland at Marshall
1st 3 weeks back to back? Then let's say back home vs Bishop Hartley week 4?
Sheesh.

Burg fans.
Let's flip dates.
We can play portsmouth week one and save you for week 10?
Those in favor?

Burg used it quite a bit in 2017 and it worked well. Usually threw it to Holden or Lowery for big gains.

Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Preliminary numbers on OHSAA has them at 204 boys for 2024-25. They were 176 last cycle and close to DIV weren’t they? Not a stretch to see them move up with CB and all.
Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Last year, Burg was 195 including CB. About 20 teams ahead of them with the largest D5 school being 204.CuckooNest wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 7:15 amPreliminary numbers on OHSAA has them at 204 boys for 2024-25. Seems like quite the jump for Burg. Has enrollment went up?
