South Webster 77
Belpre 54 a final

... the Sunday edition of the Battle in the 740 was tipped off with Belpre taking on the Jeeps of South Webster led by coaching legend Coach Norm Persin in the first of 5 games ... the D4 Jeeps got a wake up call in the opening quarter as the Washington County Golden Eagles of Coach Leasure punched SW figurative & collectively in the mouth as they jumped out to a 20-13 first quarter lead... 4 of the Golden Eagles first 6 fgs were from downtown Portsmouth as Nasaith Spencer hit 2 treys and a 2 pointer at the rim off the dribble (8pts) ... teammates Derek Liston a triple (3pts) and Blake Church added a three ball (3pts) ... all 5 starters for Coach Leasure dented the napkin stat sheet as the big man in the middle Junior Bass finished the scoring on the block with a pair of lefthanded buckets (4pts) and Chris Copen with a transition basket (2pts) ... keeping the Jeeps within reach 6-7 jr. Eli Roberts (4 pts) and sr. forward Tyler Sommer 7pts ... two guard Owen Mault put up 2pts ... Belpre 20 South Webster 13 after 1 ... SW found its rhythm in the 2nd as Jack Timothy came off the bench to score 7pts/Sommer continued to be a force as the senior post/forward stepped out to hit three ball and putback bucket (5pts) ... Eli Roberts (4pts) stayed consistent giving the Jeeps a 1pt scoring advantage in the 2nd 16-15 ... Belpre added a pair of transition baskets in the 2nd as the quick PG Nasaith Spencer got the rim for a pair of 2 pointers (4pts) , running mate on the perimeter Liston (4pts/7 in the half) ... Blake Church added his 2nd triple in the period and Bass fouled while shooting went 2/2 from the FT line ... Belpre 35 South Webster 29 at the intermission ... Coach Norm didn't win 778 games NOT being able to make adjustments at the half ... Coach opened with getting the ball into the hands of his 6-7 post player Eli Roberts, the junior responded down on the blocks and on the boards as the senior knocked down 8 points including a dunk in transition to set the tone for the 3rd period ... the Jeeps went on a 20-4 run in the 3rd to take a 49-39 lead ... pressure defense coming out of the half/ Roberts active at both ends of the floor while being a force on the boards allowed SW to take the lead and not look back as Dylan Shupert put up 4pts on the scoreboard/Mault with 4pts/ Tyler Sommer another trey + a deuce (5pts) ... defensively the Jeeps held Belpre to 3 fgs while turning them over 5 times resulting in 3 transition fgs (6pts) ... Spencer 3pts/ Bass 3pts/Church 2 pts for BHS ... South Webster 54 Belpre 43 after 3 ... South Webster held Belpre to 11 points on 3 fgs and 4/5 from the free throw line - not nearly enough as the Golden Eagles couldn't stop the Jeeps as SW put up 23 points final period led by Sommer's 8pts/ Jack Timothy's 5pts/ Hunter Barnard added 4pts off the bench with Roberts/White & reserve Brycin McClintic all putting up 2 pt in the qtr ...
