Tigers pretty much played as poorly as they could possibly play by only scoring 16 points in the first half. Stifling defense by Marietta only allowed Massillon Perry to score 16 points in the second half. Alex Kendall showed for all to see why he’s one of the best players in the SE District. Totally dominated in the second half both inside, outside and most impressive, the full length of the floor. Not many 6’8” kids can grab a rebound, dribble it coast to coast and take it all by himself for a dunk. One of the better plays I’ve seen in recent years. Good to see the Tigers not pack it in after such a lackluster performance in the first half. Whatever Coach Gardner used for his halftime speech worked very well. Woke the Tigers up and led them to a come from behind victory. Looking forward to January to see how the Tigers perform as the season progresses against some quality opponents.

Yes, amazing second half comeback. Excellent halftime adjustments, and the Tigers played hard and Kendall was tremendous. Could win a lot of games if they are healthy and maintain toughness.

It’s going to a be a barn burner when Marietta and Warren play! I look for Kendall to flex his muscles as his skill, experience, and confidence puts him as the front runner for the SE District D2 Player of the Year. He’s the best player @ MHS since Ben Howlett (West Liberty University’s Head Coach) back in 2005. In my opinion, Marietta has better overall athletes and more skilled basketball players such as Wittekind, Kelly, Knighten and company.

Warren has Stadelman and Taylor as their main guys. Stadelman has an advantage in the guard department as he is very good with the ball in his hands when he plays under control and can really fill it up from three-point land. Taylor is tall and effective in the low post, but is going to have a gargantuan task guarding Kendall. The rest of the guys on Warren seem as if they fill their roles and any of them can give you double digits on a given night….Sealey (spelling?), Barry, Lupardus, Anthony, Wells, Cressey (spelling?), etc.

Lastly, you have the Coaches in Maddox vs Gardner. In my opinion, Warren’s Maddox is the best in SE Ohio (yes, I think he’s better than Howie and Stormin Normin!). It’s hard to go against his resumé. It seems as if Maddox’s teams eke out more wins just by his game planning and in-game adjustments….a true sign of a tremendous coach. Marietta’s Gardner is a true basketball guy, played college, is a “young head,” and seems like he has infused a lot of enthusiasm in the Marietta Boys Basketball program. His players have exponentially improved since last year which is an indication of the player development aspect of a young coach. It seems like he lives, eats, and breathes basketball.

It’s gonna be a treat to watch the two scheduled games between these top programs! (we might get a third game in the postseason ). Pack the house @ Warren on January 12th and @ Marietta on Jan 26th!

... Fed Hocking was without McPherson in the Belpre game, he was moving extremely gingerly on the game video I watched ... FH is hurt not having his length/ BODY to rotate in and out ... FH had 4/5 shots on goal in the last minute of the Belpre game to take the lead & tie - they SHOULD have won that one even without Evan Mc on the floor - base on the game video I watched ... thinking of heading to Stewart Tuesday night for the Marietta @ FH, then will be at Warren Saturday night for that one as well ...

Marietta is 5-0 now but otherwise good analysis. If Marietta plays to potential and is healthy and not in unreasonable foul trouble, they will be OK against Fed Hocking. But those are two big "ifs", especially with a key player still injured since early November.

I agree, especially in light of the fact that Kendall played only 20 minutes against Fed Hocking and put up 27 points. But Fed Hocking will win a lot of ball games this season, and good teams cannot take them for granted.

How about giving Coach Leasure and Belpre some credit for winning the game and not excuses on how Fed Hock lost the game. Belpre played hard and missed some opportunities to open the game up but Fed kept fighting back to keep it close but Belpre did what they needed to do to win.
