Re: Twin State League Boys Hoops
Maybe I’m just hung up on last season’s game at Point Pleasant when the Tigers had a chance to win the league outright and lost by around 10 points. I realize it’s not the same Point team and usually it’s not the same Marietta. Got to guard against a “post Warren win let down.”
Re: Twin State League Boys Hoops
Marietta 13 8 12 16 -- 49
Warren. 10 8 16 10 -- 44
Z. Wittekind with 22, Kendall 17 for Marietta, Stadelman 16, Taylor 11, Barry 9 for Warren. Warren had trouble with FTs in the 1st half and Marietta with turnovers, especially in the 3rd qtr. Sealy guarded Kendall much of the game.
Teams stats in Marietta Times:
Shooting: M: 18-38 (47.4 percent), W: 16-51 (31.4 percent), 3-point shooting: M: 3-10 (30 percent), W: 0-13; Rebounds: M: 35 (Wittekind 9; Lieras-Kelley 9; Kendall 8), W: 21 (Lupardus 5, Taylor 4, Sealey 4), Assists: M: 7 (Lieras-Kelley 6), W: 5 (Sealey 2), Steals: M: 4 (Wittekind 2), W: 8 (Barry 2, Sealey 2), Turnovers: M: 20, W: 9. Fouled Out: Sealey.
Marietta's rebounding edge off-set their turnover disadvantage, leaving shooting percentage to decide it (on other than free throws: in spite of W going like 3/10 in the first half, W 12 for 21 for the game, while M 10 for 20).

“Historic” Warren win? Little hyperbolic, don’t you think?SouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 11:47 amInteresting games:pioneer19 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 10:59 am Tuesday 1/16
Warren (10-3) @ PHS
Fort Frye (7-5) @ Morgan
Gallia Academy @ Point Pleasant (5-5)
Friday 1/19
Point Pleasant (5-5, 1-1) @ Marietta (11-1, 2-0)
Fort Frye (7-5, 0-2) @ Warren (10-3, 1-1)
Saturday 1/20
Steubenville @ Marietta (11-1)
Some big non conference matchups this week. Warren with the rematch at PHS (3-8). Big Reds record is not impressive, but they've played a tough schedule. I see Warren winning round 2 in what should be another great game.
Fort Frye in a bit of skid right now, but Morgan is a winnable game imo. Cadets need a win with a trip to Vincent looming on Friday.
Point is capable of beating Gallia, but it depends on which team shows up. The one that lost to Eastern or the one that rolled Fort this past Friday.
Steubenville @ Marietta will be interesting. Marietta is probably the favorite, but the Tigers didn't fair well against the last D2 East team they faced. Don't know a ton about Big Red.
— I see Point beating Gallia by 10 or more and losing to Marietta by 6-10 points.
— Fort edges Morgan by 3 and loses by 25 to Warren.
— Warren beats Parkersburg if they can stop Rodriguez. They should win by 12.
—Marietta could struggle with Point Pleasant but should win and Saturday night is a “pick ‘em” game against Steubenville.
Marietta if they can get more production out of more players is the best in the Southeast (now ranked No. 1 in the OHSAA playoff rankings). But they must put the historic Warren win behind them and focus on areas of concern — shooting, turnovers vs pressure, foul shooting.
Re: Twin State League Boys Hoops
Point’s best player last year (by far) is a freshman at Marietta College playing real minutes for the Pioneers. He gave Kendall all he could handle last year, but Kendall is a much better player and Marietta is a better overall team. Anything can happen but Marietta should win comfortably if they have their heads in the game.SouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 4:15 pm Maybe I’m just hung up on last season’s game at Point Pleasant when the Tigers had a chance to win the league outright and lost by around 10 points. Re: Twin State League Boys Hoops
Interesting that Coach Maddox didn’t have Taylor guard Kendall. It makes sense, especially after Kendall dominated him in Sutton last year. Pretty impressive to see Kendall do his part on offense and control Taylor on defensemhs95_06 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 5:16 pmMarietta 13 8 12 16 -- 49

Hyperbolic, maybe. But hasn’t Marietta won at Warren like twice in the past 20 years, and this it happens when Warren was regarded as possibly the No. 1 team in the Southeast at game time?boss8 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 5:47 pm“Historic” Warren win? Point-Gallia and Fort Frye-Morgan both moved to tomorrow night. Warren-PHS moved to 2/12.

I can never remember a Marietta team winning at Warren. It’s been a long time. Probably pre-2010.SouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 1:03 pmHyperbolic, maybe. Does weather look like it will postpone Friday games this week? Doesn’t look good.

Re: Twin State League Boys Hoops
Yes, agreed. If Saturday's can't be played either losing both Friday and Saturday ( and maybe already a Tuesday game ) causes a lot of backed up games on the schedule in February when some teams want to prepare for a tourney run.pfloyd wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 1:33 pm... a good administrative move - other schools should look at this if at all possible - moving Friday games to Thursday evening ...SouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 1:10 pmMoved up to Thursday (tomorrow) at 6:00 pm. Re: Twin State League Boys Hoops
Really sloppy game with no rhythm, which is exactly what Point wanted. Just one of those you have to grind out, but Marietta will have a much tougher test on Saturday.
